Merrimack Valley Corp is a Methuen HVAC and mechanical contractor that, by its own account, is built mostly around commercial work — a 24,000-square-foot sheet-metal fabrication shop, roughly 75 employees, and a client list weighted toward businesses across southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. It has also picked up several residential HVAC divisions over the years, and it's the small stream of homeowner reviews from that side of the business that tells the fuller story. On the plus side, its Massachusetts HVAC license is active with the state, and its Better Business Bureau file has carried an A+ grade since it was accredited in 2006. One homeowner's account is telling: the company installed a gas boiler and water heater in 2017, then came back to swap out replacement units after the Columbia Gas explosions, and both jobs went well — the same customer stayed happy through routine maintenance for years. But that same review turns in 2025, when a heating outage wasn't caught despite being on a paid "priority service" plan, and it's not the only recent complaint. A 2026 review describes an installation that was done incorrectly and ended up voiding the manufacturer's warranty, and another customer wrote off a technician entirely over reckless driving to and from the job. A Reddit commenter years earlier called a heat pump replacement "terrible," for what it's worth. Its five-star reviews on Google and Angi exist too, but they're older and thinner than the recent complaints. Worth weighing against the more detailed accounts above before booking, and worth asking pointedly about warranty handling and callback response if you do.
“I used Merrimack Valley Corp to replace a heat pump and they were terrible. Just my two cents. I did have a good experience with a tech from Back Bay Mechanical, but it was just to inspect my thermostat.”
The most polite unprofessional people. Not only incorrectly installed the system, but also maintained it in a way that voided the manufacturers warranty.
Driver cant drive in snowy conditions. Flying down the roads, riding bumpers and passing people in double yellow. Would not let them in my house with the way they act on the road.
Merrimack Valley Corp did a great job installing a gas boiler and water heater for me in 2017. Then after the Columbia Gas explosions, they did a great job replacing doppelganger units. Routine maintenance went by well until the beginning of 2025. I really liked MVC. But... My heat stopped working. I already was on a maintenance plan with MVC and the guy who came over a few weeks prior said everything was fine during his tune-up. Well it wasn't. This is where MVC lost me. Since I supposedly had "priority service," I called them to have someone come out and see what was wrong. I was added to the schedule for the next day or so. Then I get a call from dispatch saying the plumber couldn't come. He was sick or something and that we'd have to reschedule. That is fine. Getting sick happens. Well then he canceled a second time. Now I am frustrated. Then dispatch said they only had a few plumbers and couldn't get someone out for a while. I called Jake, the owner, who helped me a lot in the past. He didn't pick up or could give me a call back. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I had to find someone else. The issue was the high-efficiency circulator went bad after 6yrs or so. Cost a lot to get replaced. Heat worked fine after that. C'mon Jake. I know you're better than that.
Great service and very dependable, thank you!
