A 24,000-square-foot sheet-metal shop off Aegean Drive is the tell: Merrimack Valley Corp. is set up for ductwork, rooftop units and whole mechanical systems at building scale rather than the average furnace tune-up. The company says it started in 1986 and now runs about 75 employees — its own design/build engineers, installers, electricians and pipefitters — across southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. Its BBB page, filed under Merrimack Valley Sheet Metal Corporation with Climate Design Systems as an alternate name, describes the customer base as commercial. The company itself says it also owns four acquired residential HVAC divisions in the Northeast, so which side of the house you land on matters. Homeowners tell a different story than the fab shop does. On Google the average sits at 2.7 across ten ratings, and the most recent account is a one-star from a customer who says the system was installed incorrectly and then maintained in a way that voided the manufacturer's warranty. That complaint is about the work itself and it is current, which makes it weigh more than a short compliment would. The credentials side is cleaner. Its Massachusetts sheet-metal licence, 16-SM-B, is active on the state registry, it has been BBB-accredited since 2006 with an A+ grade, and it is listed as a Methuen Chamber of Commerce member. The company also self-reports New Hampshire gas-fitting and mechanical registrations plus Massachusetts plumbing and refrigeration numbers — those are its own claims, not registry-confirmed ones. Two things to sort out before calling. The five-star Angi page rests on two reviews, both from March 2020 and one of them with nothing written in it; set beside ten Google ratings averaging 2.7, that page is not a second opinion. And because BBB describes the business as serving commercial customers, ask plainly whether a single-family house is the sort of job the residential division takes, and who will actually be on the truck. For a rooftop replacement, a clean room, dust collection or data-centre cooling on a commercial building, this is a long-established outfit with the shop to fabricate its own ductwork. For a home system, get the scope, the warranty conditions and the maintenance plan's response commitment in writing before anyone starts.
