N.E.T.R. is a North Andover HVAC contractor that says it's installed heating and cooling systems in Greater Boston since 1989, calling itself the largest ductless contractor in New England, founded by Mike Cappuccio. For years, its reviews backed that reputation: a 2024 review describes a technician tracing a condensate drip to a sagging drain tube and fixing it during the same visit, and a March 2025 review says the company outresponded three or four competing vendors before a quote was even given. That reputation has taken a real hit recently. Industry coverage confirms Sila Heating and Air, backed by the private equity firm Dubin Clark, acquired N.E.T.R. as an add-on deal, and several 2026 reviews describe technicians arriving under the Sila name rather than N.E.T.R.'s own. Since then, the complaints read very differently from the company's older record: one May 2026 review says a building permit from work completed over a year earlier is still open, with daily calls to N.E.T.R. and Sila going nowhere; another describes three follow-up visits that never got a new thermostat working; a June 2026 review says a previously reliable maintenance special now simply isn't honored; and a separate May 2026 review says two service appointments were blown off, one without any notice at all. A recent Angi review describes a $107,000 heat pump installation on a triple-decker that was quoted at two months and took eight, after a design error violated Somerville's setback code and triggered a lengthy utility resubmission. In an August 2025 review, three technician visits failed to resolve a leak from an incorrect installation, leaving ceiling and insulation damage behind. Pricing draws mixed reactions even from happy customers: several Reddit threads from 2022 through 2024 describe N.E.T.R. as solid but pricier than some competitors, with a couple of specific complaints about quotes running well above what the same part or labor should cost. Its Google rating still averages 4.9 across roughly 1,740 ratings, and it's been BBB accredited since 2014, but the last six months tell a rougher story — 17 of 146 recent reviews are negative, a share concentrated in the kind of follow-through failures described above. For a straightforward heat pump or mini-split install, N.E.T.R.'s long track record still counts for something; for anything that will need warranty service, permit closeout, or a callback down the road, ask directly who — N.E.T.R. or Sila — will be handling it, and get a firm timeline in writing before signing.
