Customers of New Coverings write about Ed by name, and the company's site calls Ed Coglin its owner-operator. The Boston-area flooring and carpet business says it has installed and repaired carpet, wood, laminate, vinyl and tile since 1987, and BBB lists it in Winthrop with an A+ grade. On HomeAdvisor it holds 4.7 stars from 194 ratings, and 4.7 from 11 on Angi. The jobs customers describe are specific. In a July 2025 review, a customer facing a tight deadline on an urgent rental apartment project had the carpets removed and the wood floors in three rooms sanded and finished with three coats of poly within the week. A September 2024 reviewer had a winding set of stairs carpeted in an 1873 Victorian home and wrote that the job "came out clean and tightly fit." A January 2024 customer said Ed let them buy the flooring themselves, and that the installers came on time, cleaned up and explained how to maintain the floors. A February 2026 review says Ed completed a basement floor project within one week. The complaints are older. In a December 2022 Angi review, a customer who had kitchen tile replaced with vinyl planking in 2020 said gaps opened between the planks over the next year; workmen came out twice after prompting, and on the third visit caulked the gaps instead of replacing planks, and the caulk later darkened and crumbled. An October 2019 reviewer reported "a few problems" while saying the finished job looks really good, and an August 2022 reviewer said the phone ballpark came in well below the on-site quote.
