O'Connell Plumbing & Heating runs out of the same Larchmont Road address in Salem, and the company describes itself as family-owned, with three generations behind it and 38 years serving North Shore homes and businesses. The numbers are small but lean the right way: 3.9 stars from seven Google ratings. Writing this spring, one customer called it the best plumbing around and specifically thanked Claudia by name, saying she'd recommend the company to everybody. Earlier write-ups describe punctual, professional visits at prices that didn't break the bank, and outside directories repeat the same general shape — the calls people make are for the ordinary stuff: a sink, a toilet, a shower, an outdoor line. One thing worth sorting out before you dial: the name on file isn't always the same one. You'll find the business listed as "O'Connell Plumbing, Inc." on some directories, "O'Connell Plumbing & Heating" on others, and an older referral even points to "George O'Connell and Son Plumbing Heating and Gas Fitting" at the same address — so it's worth confirming you've reached the right current entity and number before scheduling. For routine household plumbing in Salem, the write-ups so far support giving them a call; just know the public review trail is thin, so pin down the scope and price for your specific job up front.

We've used O'Connell to update our water tank, replaced a cast iron sewage pipe, and for a gas stove installation. Every interaction has been professional, friendly, very timely, and did not break the bank. What stands out to me is that after we did the water heater, we had someone else come in for the broiler. The other technician was visibly impressed and complimented the copper plumbing. He said he could tell that it was quality work. For a sewage pipe leak we had in the basement due to rotting cast iron pipe, O'Connell recommended a lower-cost alternative to connect and run a pipe above ground rather than breaking the foundation to replace the older one. This saved us a significant amount of time and money. For this recent stove installation, I have to thank Scott for coming over at 6AM in the morning to squeeze us in over the holidays. He was so polite and friendly - and most importantly, he valued safety, checking twice no gas leaks before leaving.

O'Connell's is local and has been in business a long time. They'll come do a small job that other plumbers may pass up, I appreciate that about them!

do not use this company. I paid top dollar for a toilet to be installed and two years later it actually moves. I went to paint behind the toilet and noticed the toilet was crooked I don’t know what made me try, but I straightened it and I was able to actually move the toilet. It’s only me here the woman accused Me of the way I sit on it and said they would have to charge me a service call and couldn’t come for five days. When I first purchased the toilet, they charged me twice. I had to wait for a refund. I was very nice and patient with them and this is how they talk to you. I will now have to pay another plumber to fix what they messed up
