One Way Development

One Way Development is a Roxbury-based general, mechanical and electrical construction contractor that works across government, commercial and residential markets in Greater Boston and New England. The company says it has been in business since 2004, was founded by president Abraham Gonzalez, and is minority-owned and operated; the BBB lists the corporation as started in 2004 with five employees. Its credentials are unusually well documented. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 148064, is verified active with the state registry in the company's own name, and BuildZoom separately shows an active Massachusetts electrician licence, number 22237. The company is certified as a Minority Business Enterprise / Disadvantaged Business Enterprise by the Massachusetts State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance and is in the US Small Business Administration's 8(a) programme; it also states certifications in solar installation, lead-safe repair and painting, lead abatement, residential conservation services, weatherization, and air sealing and insulation. The permit record is the deepest objective signal: BuildZoom counts 120 permitted projects, fourteen of them in the last three years, and scores the company 105, above 92% of the Massachusetts contractors it tracks. The sample skews electrical and mixed use — a $3.29M change of occupancy from store to community centre at 75 Blossom Court in 2024, new-construction wiring and low-voltage for a 40-unit building on Fountain Street in Roxbury, an 18-unit rewire after water damage on Washington Street, a $300,000 Waban addition in 2019 and a $148,726 Brookline kitchen and bath rebuild in 2024. In April 2024 the New England Real Estate Journal reported Dellbrook One Way, a joint venture of Dellbrook|JKS and One Way Development, breaking ground on the Franklin Cummings Tech campus in Nubian Square. The customer record is the opposite, and it is short. In a February 2024 one-star review a homeowner's family said a 2022 bathroom renovation — the house's only bathroom — went to demolition day and then had no activity or updates for well over two months, and that the family was told they were being done a favour. Two undated reviews on the BBB profile are also strongly negative: one from a subcontractor saying an invoice was marked paid by the company but never actually paid, another calling the company poor communicators and dishonest. Against those, a 2022 reviewer recommended the firm, praising the owner and a safety training programme with OSHA-certified staff. One Way is a credible fit for public or commercial work where licences, MBE/DBE status and permit history matter most. For a private homeowner the record is thinner and harsher: get the schedule, the payment milestones and the remedy for delay written into the contract, and ask directly about the delay and payment complaints.
