[RE]Architect

[RE]Architect is a design-build practice in Ayer that keeps the architect and the builder on the same team. It trades under a bracketed name but the entity behind it is Re-Architecting LLC, a Massachusetts company since April 2016, and Massachusetts' contractor registry holds its home improvement contractor registration — number 203128, verified active, filed at the same 30 Main Street address with Ashley Owens as the responsible person and running to September 2027. A north-central Massachusetts podcast that visited the office in November 2023 introduced Ashley Owens and Jamie Schwadel as the co-owners, both architects. The pitch is that design and construction sit under one roof: the company says its architects are licensed in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut and that its build side is licensed and insured in Massachusetts. Its own description leans hard on building science — settling on the right approach for a new build or a remodel before anything is drawn — and the work it advertises runs from additions, accessory dwelling units and basement conversions through to whole custom homes, with typical job costs given as $30,000 to $800,000. There is very little from customers to go on. The Better Business Bureau grades it A+ without accrediting it and shows no complaints; its Houzz and Angi profiles carry no reviews at all, and Houzz shows two posted projects, a Lunenburg lake duplex and a Cleghorn residence in Fitchburg. Houzz also lists the firm as an NGLCC Certified LGBT Business Enterprise alongside architect and contractor credentials — those are the directory's listings rather than registry checks. One number worth asking about: Houzz and Angi both publish a separate licence, 50904, that Angi records as self-reported and expiring on 08/31/2026. Ask which board issued it and to see the current certificate; the home improvement registration above is the one that has actually been checked against the state. For a project where drawings and construction genuinely need to move together, this is a small, credentialed, two-architect team — go and look at one of the two published projects before you commit.
