Nearly every review of S&S Kitchens is, in practice, a review of one man. Frank Similia's name runs through almost all 36 of them — a 2017 HomeAdvisor line, an Angi review posted this July — and the shape is the same each time: he measures, designs the kitchen, sources the cabinets and counters, then brings in the crews who build it. The company is based in Leominster and says it has been at this for 33 years. In a 2024 review a general contractor, frustrated by a rival design house that was slow to respond and vague about product options, wrote that he found S&S through a Google search and got a prompt call back from Frank. Homeowners describe the same turn. This July one wrote about a 1967 kitchen where the dividing wall to the dining room came out and the room opened up; another, touring homes in Central MA, said Frank came out as soon as their offer was accepted and drew a detailed design around a changed room orientation. The star averages are uniform: 5.0 on Google across 26 ratings, 5.0 on Angi across 11, 5.0 on HomeAdvisor across 6, and 5.0 on Houzz across 3. Volume is modest on each. The HomeAdvisor and Angi written accounts run 2017 to 2020, but Google and Angi entries keep arriving — five in the last six months, none of them negative. Two things are worth pinning down before calling. The building work is not done in-house: reviewers in 2023 and 2024 described Frank pairing them with a general contractor and an interior designer, and one 2024 customer noted the installation, plumbing and electrical came through him as well — so ask who will actually be in the house and who holds the contract for that labor. And Houzz lists a contractor licence number, 088201, on the profile; that is the directory's entry rather than a state-registry confirmation, and the tenure claims don't line up either, with the company's own site saying 33 years and its Houzz page 25. Bathrooms show up too, though thinly — a July 2026 reviewer described a bathroom designed with him, and a 2024 customer said he knew his way around both rooms in an 1890 family home. This suits a homeowner who wants a designer to draw the kitchen, source the cabinetry and counters, and run the trades, rather than a builder who shows up with a crew. A 2024 customer had a kitchen put back together after water damage from a failed instant-hot device and kept coming back to the granite; a July 2026 reviewer is on a second kitchen with him. Get the registration number and the subcontractor arrangement in writing, then judge the design work on its own.
Frank is very knowledgeable at building kitchens. Easy to work with. This is the second kitchen I’m doing, and the second time using S&S kitchens products.
Frank helped us design a stunning new bathroom and was great to work with! We loved his suggestions and the product quality to excellent. We're thrilled with how it came out
We LOVE our new kitchen! We had a definite picture in mind of what we wanted and Frank was able to make that happen. He and the contractors were great- very responsive, courteous, knowledgeable, and he made sure that everything ran smoothly and on time and also stayed on budget. It's a one stop shop with plumbing, electrical, flooring and painting included, too, so the work was all nicely coordinated and we didn't lose days waiting for different contractors/companies to be available. The workers were on time and even came on the weekends. The few small hitches we had were resolved quickly and satisfactorily. A big plus was that we had complete control over our options for flooring, backslash, and paint- we could choose anything and order it from anywhere and his contractors would install it instead of being forced to use the limited options offered by some other kitchen companies. The old kitchen was dark, cabinets were falling apart, floor tiles cracked, it didn't allow a large refrigerator to fit, and we hated the counters. The new kitchen functions well with plenty of storage space, the cabinets are sturdy, the quartz counter is gorgeous, and it is so much brighter now!
Frank had a bold vision for our small, dated kitchen. Our house was built in 1967, everything in the kitchen was original and dated! There was a dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room...Frank's idea was to get rid of the wall and open up the space. HE WAS RIGHT! It feels like we are in a new house...great open space, great light, and everybody that sees it loves it. Frank designed the space, helped us choose the materials, and brought in the contractor. The contractor and his subs were great, craftsmanship was wonderful and everyone who worked on the project was terrific! We would definitely recommend S&S Kitchens to anyone who is thinking of re-modeling!
I first spoke with Frank during our process of touring homes in Central MA. Once we had an accepted offer, he immediately came out to go over the space with us. He let us drive the design process, but offered some very thoughtful ideas/suggestions including removal of a wall, and changing the orientation of the room - he created an extremely detailed design, and we were blown away by the final result. Frank was honest and extremely knowledgable, and I would not hesitate to use him again, or recommend him to a friend.
