S.D.H. Plumbing & Heating

S.D.H. Plumbing & Heating is a Newton, family-owned plumbing and heating company that says it has served the area since 2017, growing in part from a merger with the area's previous Porter Plumbing — a longtime customer of that original shop describes staying on through the transition and calling the result "perfection." Reviewers hire the company for the full range of plumbing and heating work: water heater swaps, gas-line and boiler repairs, drain and toilet fixes, AC and furnace service, and full system replacements. The volume and consistency of the record stand out. Google shows 4.9 stars across 451 ratings, and 392 reviews have accumulated since 2021. What comes through again and again is speed and named accountability: a fitting burst late on a Monday night, and Sam called back within a minute, talked the homeowner through shutting off the water, and had it repaired by morning; another customer called at 8 a.m. and had someone on-site by noon. Technicians are named by their reviewers often enough — Dave, Chris, Zach, Greg, Bailey, DJ, John — that it reads less like a company and more like a roster of people homeowners ask for by name. One reviewer, the owner of another high-end plumbing company, went out of their way to commend SDH's professionalism in helping a mutual customer, a notable form of praise from a competitor. Massachusetts confirms the company's plumbing license, number 16465-PL-M, is active. Not every visit has gone perfectly: one customer needed two separate service calls and ultimately had to bring in another provider to finish the job, and another had a mid-winter gas heater replacement stretch to five days, with stretches of no heat, after an initial repair attempt failed. Both are the exception in a record this deep, but worth knowing about going in. For anyone in Newton, Waltham, or the surrounding Middlesex, Norfolk, or Suffolk County towns dealing with anything from a leaking faucet to a failed boiler, this is a company reviewers trust to answer fast and send someone who knows the job. Confirm scope and timeline upfront on a bigger heating-system replacement, since that's where the one drawn-out job in the record happened.
