- Small crew — about five employees on the BBB profile
Simpson Bros has been moving households out of the same South Canal Street yard in Lawrence since long before most of its competitors existed. Its BBB file puts the start of the business at 1928 and incorporation in 1997, with a crew of about five — a small, family-run shop rather than a van-line franchise. Google carries a 4.3 average across 22 ratings, and the BBB page is an A+, though the company has not sought BBB accreditation. The people who hired them describe going back more than once and sending friends their way, and they mention prices they thought were fair for the space and the labor. That history is shallow on the page, though: only a handful of comments over a few years, and nothing in the past year. The one sour note is about the storage side rather than the moving crew — a customer who arrived to a locked yard during hours they had been told it would be open, and could not reach anyone by phone. If you are renting space rather than booking a truck, pin down the gate hours and the after-hours contact in writing before you show up with a rental truck on the clock. For a local move or storage in the Merrimack Valley from an outfit with a long history and a small crew, they are a reasonable call. Confirm your pickup window, what the storage rate covers, and access hours before you commit.

Moved by Simpson multiple times. Family run. Have referred to multiple people. Would not use another company.

My mother and I used this storage place because she used them many years ago and it was good service. This time we paid for a storage space and that was fine and they told us verbally they would be open on Monday 9-5pm. We rented a uhaul truck that was due back 2pm on a Monday (08/08/'22). We got there at 11am and the fence was locked up and we were confused. We called them multiple times with no one answering. We saw another person (waiting for another storage space nearby to open up) and he said (about Simpson&bros)"they open up whenever they want" he went (a previous time)to talk to the owner of Simpson&bros and asked him about opening up at random hours and not what's posted and the owner said "it's my business,I can open up whenever I want." We waited nearly 3 hours until we finally got a new storage place at Century (the place was reliable and the woman was helpful). We were in Lawrence yesterday (Monday 08/15/'22) and we drove by Simpson&bros around 10am and they were closed. Thankfully later around 11am we saw they were open so we could get the little bit of storage out that we did put there previously and took our lock and key with us because we weren't going back. This is just a warning to others, especially if you have a uhaul that's due at a certain time because they open whenever they want with no regard to customers.
