Bay State Movers is a two-person moving outfit on Sutton Street in North Andover, run by Steve Boucher and in business since 2010 by the Better Business Bureau's account. Its BBB page carries an A+ grade, though the company has not sought BBB accreditation, and that grade comes with an important caveat: no customer reviews and no complaints appear on the page at all. A high BBB grade on an empty file mostly reflects the absence of unresolved complaints, not a track record of praise. So there is nothing yet that describes how a move with this crew actually goes. Small is not a knock — a two-person shop can be exactly right for a one-bedroom or a short in-town hop — but with a crew that size, ask specifically how many movers show up on the day and how they handle heavy pieces like a piano or a full-size fridge. Before booking, ask for their Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities intrastate moving license number, or a USDOT number if the move crosses state lines, plus proof of cargo and liability coverage. Get a written estimate that says whether it is hourly or binding, and ask for two or three recent local customers you can call.
