Seventy-three Google reviews and all but two of them land at five stars — and the recurring thread through them is heat pumps: converting old oil furnaces and window units into MassSave-rebated systems. Alex runs Smart Climate out of Stoughton, working the South Shore and up toward Quincy — a Reddit thread on r/QuincyMa also named them for a full AC system and ductwork replacement — and reviewers name him directly often enough that this reads like a small, owner-led crew rather than a call-center operation. The specific jobs described are the kind that stick: pulling a furnace that dated to 1950 and dropping in a new one, converting an oil system to a heat pump with a new gas line and gas vents run for the backup furnace, and walking customers through the MassSave whole-home heat pump rebate program and HeatLoan financing. More than one reviewer called out the crew's shoe covers when working inside occupied homes, a detail specific enough to be a pattern rather than a one-off compliment. Two reviews break from that pattern. A June 2026 one-star review describes paying $425 for a furnace tune-up that took ten minutes, then having the furnace fail completely the following week, with a $1,200 quote to fix what was called a separate issue — worth asking exactly what a tune-up visit covers before booking one. A July 2025 review separately complained about being asked for payment information before receiving a quote. For a heat pump conversion, an oil-to-electric switch, or working through the MassSave rebate paperwork on a South Shore home, this is the kind of company reviewers keep coming back to for the next job too. Given the one billing complaint, it's worth nailing down what a diagnostic or tune-up visit costs before the truck rolls.
“These guys were great. Replaced my aged AC system last year, all components, all ductwork. They were prompt and professional. The AC works like a dream now.”
Alex came out for the service call, diagnosed the issue, explained my options, sent me a quote. Once I approved the work, the service was scheduled very quickly. When Illya arrived, he showed me where the new drain line would be installed outside and explained the work that would be done. He estimated it would take a couple of hours, which was exactly what I expected. After the job was completed, he walked me through everything they had done, including installing the new EZ Trap, rerouting the condensate drain line to discharge outside, securing the new piping, and removing the old drain line. The work area was left clean and they did not leave any mess behind. I am very satisfied with their work, professionalism, and communication throughout the entire process. I would not hesitate to contact Smart Climate again for future HVAC services and would recommend them to others.
Good contractor and experience
Smart Climate HVAC provided us with excellent service. We had to replace our boiler at short notice but Alex was able to work us into his schedule and got the work done efficiently and effectively. He is highly professional as is his crew. He answered all of our questions and his pricing was very fair. Thanks Alex!
Smart Climate HVAC charged $425 for a furnace tune-up that lasted 10 minutes. Next week the furnace died completely. Said it was a different issue and wanted $1,200 more to fix it.
Alex is great! Very professional and thorough with his work.
