In March 2022 a customer's tankless system started leaking gas and water after another plumber's repair. The meter was shut off, the heat and hot water were gone, and it was early March. Ed and Ted from True Heating were the ones who came. A Stoughton neighbour tells a similar story from November 2024: pipes burst, she called every number on Google, and Ed was the only one who turned up, that same night. True Heating is Edward T. Horan Jr. and his son, working out of Stoughton since he founded the company in 1985. The work is hydronics — gas and oil boilers, steam and hot-water systems, radiators, gasfitting and water heating — and what people hire them for again and again is the big replacement, usually an oil-to-gas conversion. Those jobs are described in detail. One household in 2022 swapped a sixty-year-old oil boiler and electric water heater for a gas system, with six new radiators and basement work to make room. Another in June 2024 moved from oil to natural gas while keeping their classic steam radiators. A 2023 customer had an old Burnham steam boiler replaced with a Peerless, delivered and installed exactly as promised. And in March 2024 a customer had a modern system put in to replace the one True Heating had installed thirty years earlier. A craftsman who bought a century-old house in 2018 wrote that he appreciated the neatness of the plumbing on a boiler Ed had installed back in 2014. Others describe written proposals laying out the costs in advance, finishes on time and on budget, and being walked through the options rather than sold one. A 2023 HomeAdvisor review puts a new boiler at $4,390 and calls the price reasonable; a May 2024 Angi reviewer said the quote came in below the other estimates they had gathered. The manufacturers know them too. A 2022 customer after a Viessmann combi boiler and an HTP Superstore tank said Viessmann recommended True Heating directly, and a 2019 customer was pointed there by the gas utility. The company's own site mentions Viessmann boiler training in Germany. Two things to settle before signing. The Massachusetts licence number on the company's site, #3172C, is its own listing rather than anything confirmed with the state, so ask for the current number and check it. And this is a father-and-son shop with a crew, not a large service department, so ask what happens if the new system faults on a Sunday in January. For a boiler replacement, a steam or hot-water system, or an oil-to-gas conversion in an older house, this is a shop people call back decades later. Ask for the written proposal several customers describe, and for a walk-through of what the changeover week involves.
