A friend's recommendation, a kitchen floor, and Eddie Sarkisyan turning up to do the estimate himself — that is how a May 2016 Google reviewer described the start of their job with Smart Coats. The company works out of 73 Lexington St in Auburndale, and its own site says Ed founded it while he was at Babson College nearly 15 years ago and still manages it. The written reviews are dated — five on Google, all between 2016 and 2018 — but they describe real projects. A December 2017 customer ran a full kitchen remodel with a project manager, Ken, as their point of contact and Brian as foreman, and lived in the house for the whole of it. In January 2017 another homeowner had two baths and a kitchen redone in a two-family over the holidays while many tenants were away, and wrote that Ed and Ed worked to keep the impact off the people still living there. A January 2018 reviewer had precise paint work done on a Victorian, finished on budget and on time. The range across its directory pages is wide. BBB lists painting, remodeling, tiling, flooring, carpentry, roofing, gutters, masonry, siding, windows and doors; Houzz adds home additions, custom cabinets and tile work; Angi and HomeAdvisor list commercial interior and exterior painting alongside exterior house painting. BuildZoom shows 95 permitted projects and Houzz 25, and the Massachusetts construction supervisor licence behind the company, CS-099519, is in Edward Sarkisyan's name. Two things to weigh before you call. Price: the 2016 homeowner wrote that the estimate came in a tad higher than some others they had collected. And the star ratings are not uniform — Angi's 82 ratings break down to 61% five-star and 32% three-star, so ask for references from jobs like yours and as recent as they can give you. The right fit for a homeowner who wants one company to run a whole kitchen, bath or exterior repaint rather than a single trade, and who wants a named project manager and foreman on site. Before booking, settle who your day-to-day contact will be and get the scope and the price in writing.
Smart Coats did a fantastic job on our Victorian house. Very precise paint work. Their crew was professional and courteous. They got the job done on budget and on time. We would definitely recommend them to anyone!
Smart Coats is highly professional from the beginning to the end. Initially we met with a Project Manager, Ken who served as our point contact throughout the duration of our kitchen remodel. We lived here during the entire process and found the foreman, Brian and entire team really lovely and considerate (they even saved our cat from running into the cabinetry and out the door a few times). Others can barely believe how quickly our entire process went and we are absolutely pleased with the final result.
BY FAR SMART COATS was the PERFECT choice for our project. I never worked with a more professional contractor ever. They kept in constant contact, worked very hard, did an extreme lever of QUALITY AND DETAILING on our home. Their crew were some nicest guys we ever had the pleasure of working with. They were timely, CLEAN, respectful of our important residents and really made the extra effort to make an OUTSTANDING job for our Veterans, they are so proud of their new home! Look don't waste time with a guy in a pick up, hire the BEST, SMART COATS! they gave our VETS the best value for our money possible! We were not looking for a cheap job, we were focused on a GREAT JOB at very fair price. NO BETTER WAY TO PAINT ANY HOME or other project. I would use them over and over, as the go to painting company. YOU should too.
Smart Coats is an honest, easy to work with company. We re-did two baths and a kitchen in a two family house over the holidays while many of the tenants were away. Ed and Ed worked hard to make sure the work was done with the least impact on those remaining in the house. Through the whole process - the planning, quoting, scheduling, doing the job and the final billing, the excellent communication and steady attention to this project showed the integrity of these two men (and their crew) and I highly recommend them. The end result is top quality and they came well within the price they promised even with a change order! Thanks again Smart Coats!!
What a great team! We were looking to redo the kitchen floor so a friend recommended us to Eddie, the owner. He actually came out himself and greeted us and did the estimate for us. It came in a tad higher than some other estimates we got. Just knowing his track record and from what other people have said about Eddie and his company was enough for us to make this easy decision to go with Smart Coats. The guys came and completed the work in no time! We barely noticed them there they were so clean. They did such a great job we're redoing our master bathroom and closet with Eddie. I can't say enough awesome things about Eddie and his crew, thank you so much for making our experience one to remember!
