Stealth Control Systems is a one-person HVAC and electrical outfit run out of Dorchester by owner Howard Sanford, an LLC in business since 2019 that also trades as Stealth Controls and Sanford Controls. The company's own site describes heat pump, mini-split, forced hot air and hydronic system work alongside electrical upgrades and commercial refrigeration, serving Boston, Greater Boston and the South Shore. Google reviews from April and May 2026 keep naming specific installs — a tankless heating and hot water system, a Gree heat pump paired with Ecobee thermostats in a condo, a Mass Save-financed job where paperwork requirements changed at the last minute and still got filed on time. Several reviewers name Howard directly and describe the crew as punctual and communicative during the work. Google's overall average sits at 5 stars from 10 ratings, and the Better Business Bureau grades the company A+, though its BBB page notes it isn't an accredited business and carries no customer reviews of its own. A 2023 Reddit post told a different story: the poster regretted hiring the company for central air conditioning, saying the install didn't go well and follow-up service on a spring problem dragged into summer, with different excuses on the phone each call. A reasonable call for a heat pump, mini-split or heating-system swap in the Boston area — the run of 2026 reviews is specific and consistently positive — but the 2023 account is worth asking about directly, especially how the company handles a callback if something needs fixing after the install.
“I regret letting this company install my central a/c. They seemed great but install didn't go well and after-install service was nonexistent. Took them well into the summer to repair an issue reported in the spring. Different b/s excuses over the phone each time I called.”
“So, for example, Stealth Control Systems at 13.8k would actually cost $3.8k post-rebate, and $2k of that is covered by the IRA tax credit.”
“|Stealth Control Systems|3|13.8k, would shave off $1k for bulk discount|”
Great service completed by great people at a great pride
The installation being quick clean and fairly priced doesn't come close to telling half the story. Howard and myself were tortured by Mass Save with last minute requirements dumped on us.. Howard stayed calm cool & collective & got all documents in on time! Thank you Stealth Control Systems
