Sylvia Electrical Contracting is a Peabody, MA electrician that Better Business Bureau lists with an A+ grade and 51 years in business. The company describes itself as licensed and insured, working across the Greater Boston, North Shore, South Shore and MetroWest areas. The written record runs from 2009 to 2024 and is mostly positive, with recurring praise for fair pricing and old-house know-how: in a 2014 review, a customer called out the crew's experience with knob-and-tube wiring on a challenging job, and in a 2013 review, Steve came out same-day to quote a pool electrical hookup and came in under budget. One 2022 reviewer said Steve's prices are more reasonable than other electricians they've tried, and a 2024 review simply called the crew's work great. Two older reviews describe real problems. In a 2010 job, work proceeded under contentious circumstances after a prior contractor bailed, and the final electrical inspection failed three times over specific defects — a broken outdoor fixture screw, an unconnected ground wire, and reused wire on an oven circuit — though the reviewer said they'd likely hire Steve again given his responsiveness. A 2015 review described a new electric meter that wasn't installed for months, leading to unexpected bills. Given how much of the record predates the last decade, it's worth asking for references from recent jobs before hiring for anything beyond a small repair.
“Sylvia electric is absolutely amazing! We had an issue with a blowing breaker on a Friday, had an elec”
Steve Sylvia and his crew do Great work
Exceptional. You won’t be disappointed for any of your electrical needs.
This man always works with me. He gets the job done and his prices are more than reasonable. He gets busy sometimes and I will call other electricians. Everytime I do it never works out. Either they try to charge me my house or what they say they need to do doesn't add up. This election is the only one I know that also covers the wholes back that he puts in the wall or ceilings. Love him and I will be his customer until he goes out of business.
Snow came and the new meter was not put in for months. There were some faults with the wiring and I ended up with expensive bills.
I couldn't be happier with the quality of work on what was a challenging job. They have ample experience with K&T, were on-time and very professional.
