Szecon Development describes itself on Angi as based in Andover, MA, and focused on custom home building, home additions and complete residential renovations. Szecon Development, Inc. holds Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration 188137, active on the state registry. A 2025 article on themelrosemessenger.org said the company is owned by Sean and Laura Szekely, who built two subdivisions near Swains Pond and have turned to building larger apartment complexes. A customer says Sean built a custom home for them in 2009, and that when they bought a seasonal home that needed a down-to-the-studs remodel, Sean was their first call; that customer says he and his team are doing the remodel now. A customer says Szecon completed a full home renovation and added a second floor onto their home, all in a timely manner. In a 2018 BuildZoom review, a buyer of a new construction home in Andover that was about 80% complete said builder Sean Szekely set about three completion dates and missed them, and that closing came in August after a 4-to-6-week estimate in March. That 2018 buyer said the punch list was so long they agreed to a $2500 hold back, and described baseboard installed wrong and window trim cut too short.
“554-556 Franklin Street is the latest project by Szecon Development, which is owned by Sean and Laura Szekely, former residents of Melrose who built two subdivisions near Swains Pond and have now turned to building larger apartment complexes.”
This was our second time using Sean and his team at Szecon Development for home construction. The first time was in 2009 when he did a custom build for our brand new home. The quality and craftsmanship surpasssed our expectations. Sean does not cut corners! When we bought our seasonal home 17 years later, which needed a "down to the studs" remodel, Sean was our first call. He and his team are doing a fabulous job, and frankly we wouldn't have trusted anyone else to do the job. Highly recommend this company, top quality results!
Szecon Development completed a full home renovation and added a second floor onto our home. Everything was completed in a timely manner and well exceeded our expectations.
My wife and I found a new construction home in Andover Massachusetts in March of 2016 that was about 80% complete. The builder was a man name, Sean Szekely. The house looked very nice and on paper sounded great when completed. The builder said about 4 to 6 weeks from March. However, we ended up closing in August. We ended up sell our home and spending about 2 weeks in a hotel. The builder picked about 3 dates as completion deadlines, but could never meet them. The final walk through was very disappointing. Our punch list was so long, in the end, we agreed to a hold back of $2500. The hold back wasn't even close to what we are paying now to finish the job. As the days go by, we find new problems with the house. Looking back, we would have just waited for the house to be completed before making an offer. I feel as though once we made an offer, he knew he had a buyer and began using cheaper and less experienced sub-contractors to finish the home. Overall, poor builder and untrustworthy. Simple things like baseboard being installed wrong and trim around windows being cut too short. Totally took the enjoyment out of buying and owning new construction. The realtor that he used was no better, she works for Coldwell Banker, she just outright lied to us about certain things.
