A corporate HVAC company quoted a February 2026 customer an extremely high price for a simple furnace fix. Tim came out the next day, confirmed the diagnosis, quoted something reasonable, and had the furnace running. T&K Mechanical is a Quincy family shop — Tim, his son Tim, Kevin and Joe all turn up by name in customers' accounts — doing residential heating, cooling and plumbing across Greater Boston with 24/7 emergency service, and saying it has been at it more than 35 years. Its BBB page is an A+. Heat pumps are where the larger jobs sit. A January 2025 homeowner who traded 20 years of gas for a Bosch heat pump reported it running through the coldest temperatures in four years a month later. An April 2026 client, a decade into using them, has had a condensate boiler, relocated air conditioners, three Bosch heat pumps and annual maintenance out of the same crew. A May 2023 client was walked through the Mass Save loan, the rebate and the federal tax credit to bring the price of a new system down, and a July 2026 whole-home AC install was routed to keep ductwork out of most of the attic so the storage space survived. Speed comes up constantly. A February 2025 customer called in the morning for a new furnace and had it in by three. A July 2025 client whose AC died mid-summer had the owner on site inside two business days. Two days before Christmas 2025, Tim and Joe diagnosed a problem and spared the homeowner a new water tank. The complaints are consistent with one another, and they are about showing up rather than know-how. An August 2025 customer said they were told nearly every day that someone was coming and were no-showed about 80% of the time, with excuses or silence in between. A February 2024 customer said the appointment was a no-call no-show and they were then billed $200 for the service call. A September 2025 reviewer raised their rating to four stars after owner Tim phoned them — the original review was about no response. Separately, a June 2024 customer said a central AC system installed four years earlier still pushed no air through the vents despite yearly return visits, and a September 2022 customer said a new boiler was leaking the day the crew left and that no permit was pulled until they went to town hall for an inspection themselves. For a heat pump conversion, a furnace that dies in a cold snap or an AC that quits in July, this is a fast, fairly priced family shop with a long list of customers who keep calling back. Get your appointment confirmed in writing, ask who pulls the permit and when, and on a new system pin down in advance what happens if the airflow is not right after the install.
