Trethewey Brothers (TBros) is a long-running Roslindale plumbing and heating company — several reviewers describe using them for 26, 30, or even 32 years, one calling them a family's plumber "through the generations." That kind of loyalty shows up alongside real range: boilers and furnaces, water heaters and whole-house filtration, and the kind of emergency call that comes at the worst possible time — a furnace dying the night before a winter storm, a burst valve on a Saturday with no hot water. A recurring theme across the record is trustworthiness on bigger decisions. A 2025 review describes calling TBros for a second opinion after another plumber quoted $15,000 for a full boiler replacement; TBros found and fixed a leaking valve instead for $800. A Reddit commenter separately described the company insisting on pulling a permit for a kitchen project rather than skip it, calling the resulting premium price worth paying. What to know before calling: pricing isn't always predictable up front. A June 2026 review describes a $95 charge just to get an on-site estimate, with the caveat that the quoted price can change once work begins — a different model than the free-estimate competitors some reviewers compare it to. A December 2025 review describes a dishwasher installed without being anchored, which the customer says caused damage to the unit over time after being told their cabinets were too old to secure it properly. Two older reviews — one from 2022, one from 2024 — describe frustrating phone interactions: a hung-up call and an inquiry that went unanswered for more than a week. And a 2025 review from an elderly couple whose heat failed on a Saturday says the actual repair work was excellent but the response fell short of the company's advertised 24/7 availability. None of this is the norm — the overwhelming majority of the 190 reviews on file, including 27 in just the last six months, describe prompt, communicative, well-executed work, often from the same handful of named technicians customers ask for by name. For anything from a routine repair to a genuinely hard heating problem in an old house, TBros' record supports it; for a bigger job, it's worth asking upfront exactly how the estimate and any changes to scope will be priced.
“I used Trethewey Brothers. They insisted on a permit. You know why? Because they don't suck. Did I pay a premium? Yes I did. And I'm okay with that.”
TBros responded quickly and provided excellent service.
Juan was flexible with my work schedule, pleasant polite and professional. He was also so knowledgeable about what needed to be done!!! I was very impressed
Always professional. Truly exceptional service and company
T-bros came right away and the fellows were experienced, kind and had a good sense of humor. Wish I had called them 2 years ago instead of living with a broken guest bathroom!!
I had your employee come to fix a leak from the hot water shower valve back in February. 3 weeks later I requested someone to return to fix the same hot water turn off because of a loud screech that happened when it was fixed the first time. Your employee came and couldn’t fix the problem. Fast forward 4 months I called for the compression washer to be replaced again because it failed. I considered calling Sila for my plumbing needs but didn’t. I. Stay with you because of the trust I continue to have
