Tom Curren Companies is a long-running Auburndale general contractor — BBB Accredited since 2007 with an A+ grade, and holding an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration. Across Google, Houzz, and Best Pick Reports, the volume of work described is enormous: painting, kitchen and bathroom remodels, structural repairs, additions, and full-house renovations, most of it praised for organized project management and named staff who show up repeatedly across different reviews. The completed-work reviews are detailed and specific. One customer's structural project — removing an exterior wall and installing a steel support beam in a kitchen/dining area — took three months and is described as handled with flexibility and proactive communication. A five-month bathroom remodel that also involved fixing water leaks into the basement is praised for the lead carpenter's day-to-day coordination of subcontractors. A repeat customer says the company came back over a year after installing custom kitchen cabinetry to fix a drawer issue at no charge, even though the cabinet itself had been made by a third party — evidence, the reviewer says, that "they stand behind their work." There's a real pattern worth flagging before calling, though, separate from the completed-work praise: several reviews describe friction in the sales and quoting process itself, not the work. One prospective client says a company vice president showed up unannounced and spent half an hour lecturing about "the five Ps of hiring a contractor" before finally presenting numbers. Another says she was told her husband had to be present to review an estimate despite being the one who routinely handles household projects, and called the requirement insulting. A third felt the company only wanted larger, more profitable renovation jobs. Separately, an older (2017) review describes a signed contract's price rising by more than $30,000 after a walkthrough, and paying roughly $12,000 for cabinetry work a second contractor estimated should have cost a third of that. A 2025 review alleges the company would only correct faulty work if the customer agreed to book additional paid work — a serious claim, though an outlier against the broader record. None of this erases the volume of strong, specific praise here — most reviews, including the majority from the past six months, describe careful, well-communicated work — but the recurring theme in the negative accounts is less about workmanship and more about how prospective and past customers were sometimes treated commercially. For someone considering Tom Curren for a larger renovation, the track record on execution is strong; it's worth getting the full quote and scope in writing up front, and asking directly about their process for handling any post-installation issues.
“Had a bad experience with tom curren”
“I use Tom Curren Companies for smaller interior and exterior jobs, they're super easy to work with and have a great group of subs who do work of all types like this. They're responsive and will come do a very sound estimate for you.”

They showed up on time and ready to go, a crew of three guys were able to complete all the rooms in just one day! Working with their scheduling team and their planning team was easy. Will deffinetly contact the next time my organization needs painting done
I had an unpleasant experience after connecting with one of their senior consultants. It was clear to me, I was definitely not worth their time. Very bizarre experience from the start.
In April my husband and I decided that the exterior of our house needed a refresh. The foundation, doors, basement windows, handrails needed to be painted along with some minor repairs. We had used Curren services years ago to redo our bathroom and were very satisfied with the work so contacted them again. Project consultant Peter Woods came and did a very thorough review of what we needed, including taking pictures. We received a detailed job estimate promptly which we accepted. In June we received a late afternoon phone call asking if there was any way that the project could start the following day. Luckily that worked and the crew was here promptly the next morning. Mark the project manager walked around the house with us to reconfirm the work that needed to be done. Then Eli and two painters got right to work, worked the entire day, and got a great deal accomplished. There was some confusion the following morning since we expected the crew to be here early again, but after a late morning phone call to Peter things got back on track. The entire project was almost completed on the second day. Texts from Mark were very helpful. There was one addtional project that was added on and Mark came on a Saturday to get it done. We were very pleased with the quality of work and responsiveness of Curren staff and would highly recommend them for any project.
Exterior of house was prepped and oiled last summer, our second time with Tom's team. During the process, we had some issues with foundation plantings. Tom, himself, came by to have a closer look and assured us any concerns would be addressed. This spring, all issues had resolved themselves and, once again, Tom came by to make sure we were completely satisfied.
I hired Tom Curren Companies to paint the exterior of my house. I am very pleased with the result. They did good carpentry work wherever the trim or siding had rotted. Then they did a nice professional job priming and painting the house. Communication was excellent, starting with a very detailed evaluation of the house and proposal. The crew were polite and efficient during the job. I would hire them again!
