W.E. McClellan Builders

On Thanksgiving Day, with a two-dormer addition nearly done, a rainstorm sent water pouring through the roof in the construction zone, and Bill came out himself to secure it. That story, from a 2013 HomeAdvisor review, is typical of how customers describe W.E. McClellan Builders: a Plympton builder and remodeler whose clients mostly talk about Bill personally. The company says it has 40 years of experience remodeling South Shore homes and building custom homes, and its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #197026, is active on the state registry. Most of the written reviews date from 2009 to 2016, and the jobs are big ones. A 2014 reviewer whose house used to be a barn said Bill matched the new barn's detailing to the house, worked from a detailed contract and stuck to the price. Another 2014 customer described a major project finished turnkey through his network of subcontractors. Customers writing in 2009 and 2010 described a transformed bathroom and a basement remodel. In January 2021, a homeowner said Bill replaced an old wooden deck and added a screened porch, and a July 2021 reviewer said he had built two homes for them, on time and within budget. A June 2026 Google reviewer called Bill easy to work with. There is one serious complaint. In a February 2020 Angi review, a homeowner said they lost $250,000 because Bill and his company did not follow the architect's plans while he was building a home on Nantucket, and that their $2 million house was built two feet short at the roof line. Angi and HomeAdvisor each show 4.3 stars from 8 ratings, and Google shows 5 stars from 2.
