Zen Windows Boston is the local face of a national window-and-door replacement franchise — the company says it was founded in 1998 and has grown to multiple U.S. locations, including Boston, all built around one pitch: get a quote online, skip the in-home sales visit, and pay only once the job is finished. The name covers real history in the area. A run of Houzz reviews from 2014 through 2017 describes Matt Rotondi, running the Winchester-based operation, personally walking homeowners through jobs of a dozen-plus windows — replacing 17-year-old triple casements, 27-year-old double-hungs, a French door swapped for a picture window — with reviewers repeatedly naming him for being responsive and hands-on. More recent Google reviews, from 2024 into 2025, describe similar work: 21 windows replaced in four days with SoftLite Classic Pro product, installers showing up on time, and pricing competitive against other quotes. Two things are worth sorting out before signing anything. First, the Better Business Bureau's current listing for Zen Windows Boston is a Brookline-registered entity that's only 3 years old, carries an F rating, and states the reason as a failure to hold a required competency license — even though the same page also prints a license number set to expire in 2028. That's a different registered business than the Winchester shop tied to Matt Rotondi's Houzz history, and it isn't clear which one would actually handle a new job today. Second, a homeowner writing in November 2025 described signing a contract at the end of July with a written 4-to-6-week installation promise, only to have the date pushed to mid-December — nearly five months later — with the windows still not in. That delay complaint sits alongside otherwise steady praise: a 4.8-star average on both Google (26 ratings) and Thumbtack (23 ratings), a 5.0 average on Houzz (12 ratings), and a background-check badge on Thumbtack. One Google reviewer also described getting an old window replaced under warranty years after the original purchase, even after "their local affiliate went out of business" — itself a hint that the local operation behind the Zen Windows name has changed hands before. Zen Windows Boston is a reasonable call for a straightforward window-replacement project sold through its online, no-sales-visit process — the installation work draws consistent praise when it happens on schedule. Before booking, it's worth asking directly which entity is doing the work, confirming its license status independently, and getting a firm, written installation date given the delay on file.
David showed up on time and quickly completed the work. Very professional.
trustworthy!
Couldn’t do the work on our last minute time frame. But responded fast and gave me a heads up on something I didn’t think of!

We signed with Zen Windows at the end of July after being told—in writing—that installation would happen within 4–6 weeks. It’s now mid-November, and not only are the windows still not installed, but the installation date was just pushed again to mid-December—almost five months after signing. We specifically reviewed the timeline because we wanted this done before it gets cold. We have booked dog daycare which has to be rescheduled, it affects our schedules, plans, and will massively impact our work, which is WFH. The measuring process was chaotic. The person sent to measure always gave last-minute notice and had to come out multiple times because they kept miscounting the number of windows—always short by one. Communication throughout this process has been terrible. You have to constantly follow up for updates; Zen never reaches out proactively or takes ownership of delays. Every update comes only after you chase them. When we brought up these issues, the company’s response was to blame the original sales rep, who is “no longer with them.” Convenient excuse, but the timeline and promises were in writing. Zen has taken no accountability for the misinformation or poor service. Yes, they may be cheaper than competitors, but you truly get what you pay for—unreliable timelines, lack of professionalism, and customer service that’s downright egregious. Buyer beware!
