Fourteen reviews spread across Google and Houzz from 2012 to 2024, and not one of them is under five stars. That is the shape of Artisan Kitchens: a small Osterville shop that Cape Cod homeowners hire to design a kitchen or bath and then carry it through installation. Amy Britton founded the firm in 2005; BBB puts the business start at July of that year, and the company says she has been a Certified Kitchen Designer since 1993. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held in the company's own name. BBB has accredited it since November 2008 and grades it A+. What the people who hired them describe, over and over, is the design conversation rather than the crew. A homeowner writing on Google in 2023 said Britton took their ideas for a seasonal home's kitchen and bath, added concepts they would never have considered, and steered them off choices she knew from experience would not work — including a master bath layout that freed up room for a first-floor powder room. Another came back in 2024: a kitchen years earlier, then a full main-bathroom remodel with tile, fixtures and cabinetry chosen together. The Houzz history runs deeper and older. In a 2017 review, a couple credited Britton for refining the layout until it worked and installer Steve for cuts that were square and level. In 2015, a homeowner who wanted a contemporary kitchen in a small Cape Cod space — where, as they put it, most kitchens are white and traditional — said the finished room was exactly what they had pictured. A designer referred two of her own clients in 2013 and said the job landed on time and on budget; in 2012, another wrote that the project's budget limits were respected. Two things to weigh. The written record is dated — the newest written account is July 2024, and most of the Houzz reviews were posted between 2012 and 2019, so there is little recent detail to read. And BBB lists Artisan Kitchens as a one-employee corporation: the designer and the point of contact are the same person, which is what several reviewers liked, but it also sets a ceiling on how many projects run at once. The trade press has noticed the design work. Kitchen & Bath Business named Britton a Transitional Kitchen Design winner in a 2019 national contest, and a 2019 Kitchen & Bath Design News feature walked through her rework of a kitchen and family room. The right call for a homeowner on the Cape who wants a designer at the table from the first sketch and does not need a large firm juggling several trades. Before booking, ask about current lead time and who performs the installation, and pin down which scope you are buying — the company offers design-only, design-with-your-builder, and full design/build.
“In focusing on the kitchen, Amy Britton began by creating a more efficient layout that would open up the kitchen and family room”
“Transitional Kitchen Design winner – Amy Britton, CKD with Artisan Kitchens Inc.”
“Back in 2005, after 20 years of designing for other people, I decided to go out on my own so I could give people the type of unique design and outstanding customer service that I’d always wanted to.”
A number of years ago, I worked with Amy and Steve Britton of Artisan Kitchen’s Inc on the design and construction of a new kitchen. Highly satisfied with the kitchen project and with many rave reviews from guests who visited, I recently turned to Amy to help me with a complete remodeling of my main bathroom. She listened to my vision of designing a bathroom with the comfort of a spa. Amy patiently guided me throughout the process including the selection of tile, fixtures, cabinetry and colors. Amy's design talent and experience is outstanding and the completed bathroom turned out to be far greater than I expected. I would highly recommend Amy and Artisan Kitchens to anyone considering a kitchen or bath remodel. You will not be disappointed. W. Barker, Marstons Mills
Amy Britton of Artisan Kitchens Inc just finished a major kitchen and bath design and remodel project for my seasonal home. I highly recommend her services. Her design skills are extraordinary. She listened to our ideas and incorporated them into the final design while at the same time offering creative concepts that we would never have considered. Plus she gently nudged us away from things that she knew from experience were not workable. She also came up with an out of the box master bath design that allowed for the addition of a much needed new first floor powder room with a small footprint. Amy's "one stop shopping" approach worked extremely well for us. The construction was done during the off season when the house was empty and we were accross the country. Amy hired and managed all the contractors so that the project was completed by the agreed upon early summer deadline. We were in constant communication during construction. Amy sent us weekly pictures so that we could monitor progress. Plus she gave us plenty of notice as well as alternatives when we needed to make additional decisions as work progressed. She incorporated all final designs and color, tile decisions etc. into an online portfolio that was very helpful for reference purposes.
We have just completed a kitchen/bathrooms/ family room renovation with Artisan Kitchens and we are thrilled with the result. Amy was able to take our ideas and preferences, add her own design talent, and come up with a finished product that is stunning! A complication of this project was that we were living overseas at the time, so we only had a limited number of face to face meetings. Despite this, the project was completed in a timely and cost effective way. Amy is a great listener and we trusted her professionalism as well as her vision. She was a joy to work with and we would wholeheartedly recommend her
The design, quality, and installation of our kitchen was beyond expectations. We couldn't have asked for a better team than Amy and Steve. Amy is very professional and patient. She refined the design with continued communication until we were happy with both the layout and the details that were important for function. Because of her many years of design experience, she took our ideas and wish list and turned it into the most beautiful kitchen. Steve is a true perfectionist with his installation skills and took time to make sure every cut was square and level. We couldn't be happier with our new kitchen! We highly recommend them to design and install your dream kitchen!
I highly recommend Amy and Artisan Kitchens in Osterville, MA. Her experience and knowledge made our new build kitchen and bar a dream. Amy listened to what we wanted and had great ideas and advice. She was able to direct me when I wasn't quite sure what direction I wanted and never pushy, always professional. Her attention to detail every step of the way is wonderful. We are so happy with our new kitchen and Amy was a big part of that.
