Homeowners who have renovated before write the longest reviews of Mullen Building, and the detail they keep landing on isn’t the finish work — it’s the schedule and the invoice. “There were no surprises on timing or cost, which after doing many renovations in CT and MA was a first,” a Cape homeowner wrote in June 2026, after the crew took down an 1800s barn and worked the salvaged timbers into an addition. Mullen runs out of Osterville and says it has been a family-operated Cape Cod builder since 2003, with Doug Mullen as president and founder. The work spans custom homes, additions and whole-house remodels, plus historic restoration, estate care and land development. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held by Mullen Building & Remodeling LLC, and BuildZoom counts 46 permitted projects across Cape towns. People have been writing about them since 2016 — 19 reviews in all, 5.0 across 22 Google ratings and 5.0 from the two on Houzz, both of those dating to 2016 and 2017. The jobs described are mostly big ones: a two-year project begun in 2022 that demolished an existing structure and put a mid-century home and an ADU on a mid-Cape lot (written up in January 2025); a rebuild after a major fire that integrated steel into the undamaged structure, described in a 2022 review; a Centerville kitchen and primary bath taken to the studs in 2019. Customers name the people — a project manager, Katie, who a 2022 client said installed insulation herself; Corey, the foreman on site daily in that June 2026 account. Several came back for a second and third project. Two things are worth pinning down first. Houzz puts a typical Mullen job anywhere from $2,000 to $2 million, so if yours sits at the small end, ask early whether it’s a fit — what customers describe is almost entirely large renovations and new construction. And BuildZoom lists an older Massachusetts registration for the company, #138368, as inactive and at one point cancelled, alongside the current active one; a question about that history costs nothing. (Houzz also shows a licence number, 81995 — that is the directory’s own listing, not a confirmation.) For a custom build, a substantial addition or a gut remodel on the Cape, where a predictable schedule matters more than the lowest bid, this is the shape of builder those customers are describing. Confirm the registration on the state site, ask to walk a recent project, and get the change-order process in writing — a 2022 client credited written approval of every change as the reason he knew the cost the whole way through.
“Tucked away at the end of a long, winding driveway on Cape Cod, a once neglected property finds new life as a newly-built mid-century modern home under the expertise of Mullen Building.”
We’ve worked with the team at Mullen on multiple projects at our home in Mashpee — from smaller jobs to larger renovations — and they’ve impressed us every time. The quality of their work is always outstanding, but what really sets them apart is how easy they make the entire process from planning to project completion. We wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a contractor they can rely on.
If I could give Mullen Building more than five stars, I would. When we first hired Mullen Building to renovate our home, we had a vision of what our dream home could be. Their team not only brought that vision to life but they exceeded every expectation we had. From start to finish, their professionalism, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence were evident in every aspect of the project. What truly sets Mullen apart is that they stand behind their work. Even after the project was completed, they were responsive, reliable, and always willing to address any questions or concerns. That level of integrity and customer service is rare and speaks volumes about who they are as a company. In fact, we were so impressed with our renovation that when it came time to add an addition to our home, there was never any question about who we would hire. Mullen was the only contractor we considered—and once again, they absolutely knocked it out of the park. The addition seamlessly blends with the original home, and the quality of the work is outstanding. We are now on project number three with them and at this point, we joke that we're either going to run out of projects or run out of money! They've earned our complete trust and confidence. We're even considering putting a plaque on our house that simply says "MB" because their work has become such a meaningful part of our home. If you're looking for a contractor who delivers exceptional results, takes pride in their craftsmanship, and truly cares about their customers, look no further than Mullen Building. We couldn't recommend them more highly.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience with everyone at Mullen from start to finish. Doug and his team provide exceptional quality in their work, as well as everyone who they bring into the project. We took down an 1800s barn, saved much of the materials and repurposed them in an addition to our home. Corey, our foreman, was on site daily not just to supervise but hands on. There were no surprises on timing or cost, which after doing many renovations in CT and MA was a first. An added bonus is that we enjoyed being around these people, which is not always the case. Highly recommend!
Doug and Team are fantastic to work with. They are professional and strong communicators. I've worked with them on several projects and now have the pleasure of having them work on my own home.
Mullen Building has gone above and beyond with our build in Yarmouth. Teamwork was key as I was offsite for most of the build. From start to finish the entire team was professional, efficient and the build site was always neat and clean (inside and out) including their trucks and equipment. Their team was always friendly to neighbors and conscious to the temporary effect on the neighborhood. It's evident they take pride in their work and its reflection on the Mullen name. It has been a pleasure working with them. I hightly recommend Mullen Building and Remodeling.
