Catchlight Painting is a Newton painting and carpentry crew that clients hire once and keep calling back for — not just a repaint, but whatever comes up alongside it: molding repairs, carpentry fixes, small fixture work. Two reviews from this summer describe an on-time, "drama-free" process with fair pricing and thorough cleanup, and a Victorian repaint praised for handling complex trim detail well. Google puts them at 4.9★ from 102 ratings, and Houzz shows a perfect 5.0★ from 8. The review history runs deep — 61 reviews from 2021 to 2026 across six sources — and a handful of names keep recurring as the crew rotates through jobs: Nigel, Pete, Marcos, Doug. A late-2025 review recounts squirrel-damaged crown molding on a mansard roof, repaired by replicating the original design in epoxy instead of a full, costlier replacement. Carpentry keeps showing up as its own thread apart from painting — a sink-fixture reinforcement, a matched front-door molding repair, bathroom caulking and fixture swaps — all from reviews dated 2023. Not every account is glowing. A late-2025 reviewer described paying $1,000 for paint-removal test samples, then disputing the hours billed against what was quoted. A December 2024 review said pricing ran at the high end of estimates and that painters needed daily direction to avoid missed prep work and a wrong paint color. And the state registry lists its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#117503) as expired — worth asking about directly before signing anything. For a paint job on an older or detail-heavy home, the volume of specific, repeat-customer praise stretching back years is hard to match locally. Confirm the current registration status and get a full written cost breakdown before work starts — a few customers have flagged billing that grew past the original estimate.
The entire team did a fabulous job. They made the entire process drama-free. The price was reasonable and fair for the on time performance and quality work. They also offered many tips about how to mitigate issues in the future. They did a great job cleaning up afterwards. No paint spatters anywhere. Looking forward to our next project together.
Catchlight did an exceptional job painting my house. It is a big Victorian, with lots of complex detailing. The crew was really good: efficient, with great attention to detail, and respect for the property. The house has never looked better.
We have had the pleasure of working with Catchlight Painting on various projects and appreciate their attention to detail, customer focus and push for perfection. Always a pleasure seeing their crews on job sites
We worked with Catchlight on a full home interior painting job and had a fantastic experience with Nigel, Alex, Dana, and the rest of the team. They delivered an amazing paint job, helping usmake decisions along the way, accommodating changes throughout the process, and ensuring everything was perfect before completion. We were on a tight timeline with our move, and they went above and beyond to make it happen without compromising quality. Highly recommend!
Catchlight has consistently been the best painting and handyman team we’ve worked with. They complete everything to specification and to the highest standard of quality. On our most recent job, Doug and Victoria were fantastic and easy to work with. Their services aren’t cheap, but the pricing is reasonable given the exceptional quality.
