"We never felt like they were upselling us" — a June 2026 customer, writing after Cityside Construction finished their bathroom. Four of the eleven written reviews make a point of the schedule holding, and three of those say the budget held too.
Cityside is a Boston general contractor founded by Nicholas Matt, who the company says spent a decade in Boston construction first; Garrett Peters runs projects. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. The firm describes its work as new construction, renovations and commercial build-outs, and lists Boston, Cambridge, Newton, Wellesley, Brookline and Weston along with Back Bay, Beacon Hill, the South End, South Boston and the Seaport.
Eleven reviews since 2024, all five stars, behind a 5-star average across 14 Google ratings. The jobs behind them are varied. A May 2026 client had the top floor of an apartment rebuilt — a two-bedroom turned into a three, both bathrooms redone — and wrote that it came in on budget and ahead of schedule. In an April 2025 review, a homeowner had the old porches on a triple-decker torn off and new ones built, and said the crew adapted as unexpected problems came up. Another April 2025 review covers a patio installation, the homeowner crediting the design suggestions. A September 2025 reviewer, writing in Spanish, said the team hung drywall in an apartment in about four hours, work they had expected to take a couple of days, and that the quality held up anyway.
Nick Matt's name turns up in five of those reviews, most often for being easy to reach while a job is running. One customer says they have now hired Cityside twice; another, in March 2025, wrote that after a couple of years of work together the crew never takes the easy way out.
Permitting is the thing to talk through early. A May 2025 client described a deliberate planning stretch — the team waited while scope was settled and permits came through — and then quick work once it began, so ask what the schedule looks like on either side of the permit. The company also says it runs a real estate arm affiliated with William Raveis, with Matt himself licensed as an agent, which is worth naming out loud if you met them through that side.
For a condo or apartment renovation in Boston, or exterior work on a three-decker, this is a reasonable call — reviewers describe exactly those jobs. Get the scope, the allowance for changes and the permit timeline in writing, and confirm the certificate of insurance before demolition starts.
