Rebuilding a Frank Lloyd Wright house is an unusual line on a Cape Cod builder's résumé. Cregg Sweeney worked as master builder on the restoration and rebuild of the Buehler House in Orinda, California before he and his wife Karen started Cregg Sweeney, LLC in 2005 and brought that work east — a family-owned shop, by the company's own account, now 21 years into custom homes, renovations, historic restorations and green builds on the Lower and Outer Cape. One detail separates them from most general contractors: they run their own millwork and cabinetry shop, and Houzz lists Cabinets & Millwork beside Residential Construction and Building & Remodeling as what they actually sell. The outside voice here is professional rather than homeowner. A February 2025 Residential Design case study quotes the project's architect saying the work "required incredibly good craftsmanship" and calling Sweeney "a crackerjack builder" — a designer's verdict from a job she oversaw, and the strongest independent word anyone has put in print about them. Closer to home the name turns up in community listings: the Community Development Partnership in Orleans thanked the company as an event sponsor in July 2026. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and held in the company's own name. The homeowner side is where this gets thin. Eight project galleries sit on the Houzz profile with no reviews attached to any of them, so nothing here tells you how the crew handles a schedule, a change order, or a punch list. For a custom build or a restoration on the Cape they are a credible, properly registered, architect-endorsed choice — just ask for two or three references from finished Cape projects, and about lead times in the millwork shop, since that in-house capacity is a large part of what you'd be paying for.
