Watkins Works is a small Orleans crew that Cape homeowners in Eastham, Harwich, Dennis and Orleans call when the outside of a house needs rebuilding rather than patching.
Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held by Dominic Watkins, whom the Better Business Bureau lists as owner/operator of a five-person company it dates to 2019.
The through-line in what customers write is decking and shingle work. A 2024 reviewer described a new Azek deck with a stainless steel wire railing system; a 2025 reviewer had the whole outside of a house re-shingled with Azek trim and a deck added. Windows come up almost as often — 11 replaced at a Harwich house in 2024, a dated bay window converted into three separate windows the same year, two porches re-shingled with new roofing in 2025.
The harder jobs are where the reviews get specific. A 2025 customer bought a 1780 house that had been floated over from Nantucket to Harwich and hired Watkins Works to fix a staircase with five-inch treads and finish the upstairs bath. A 2024 customer replacing linoleum and carpet with hardwood ran into water-damaged floors, walls and plumbing partway through, and wrote that Dominic laid out the options and priced them before going ahead. Interior work — flooring, custom tile, trim, bathroom renovations — turns up steadily, though it is the smaller share.
Two things are worth pinning down before you sign. The first is how change orders get priced: a 2025 reviewer was requoted after unexpected conditions surfaced and thought the new number fair, but on houses this old the surprise is the norm, so ask how a revised figure gets set. The second is the shape of the written history itself — 42 ratings on Google against a single review anywhere else, and a company the BBB dates only to 2019, incorporated as an LLC in 2022. Its BBB grade is an A+, and the same page lists it as not BBB accredited, with no complaints and no government actions on file.
Repeat hiring is the most telling number here. One 2024 reviewer was on their third project; others describe years of small jobs at the same house in Dennis. That is the pattern of a crew people keep calling back, not one winning jobs on price.
If you own an older Cape house needing decking, siding, windows, trim or a bath rebuilt, this is a reasonable call. Get the change-order terms in writing before the first day on site.
