In a January 2025 Thumbtack review, a customer who was out of state wrote that James and his team renovated their new "snowbird" home in Maine, with some of everything: plumbing, electrical, painting, flooring and structural work. James sent pictures of progress, kept to budget and was able to get subs in, which the reviewer noted isn't easy to do in Maine. D & D Construction Group describes itself on Thumbtack and Angi as a locally owned and operated general contracting company in Morrill, and it holds 4.7 stars from 21 Thumbtack ratings. In a September 2023 review, a customer wrote that James and his team gutted and replaced the floors, walls and ceilings of a bedroom damaged by a burst pipe, at a fair price for the area and with a tidy job site. In July 2023 a reviewer who had bought a home unseen while living in Montana wrote that three other contractors would not come look at the cracked garage floor; James came within a week, and within three to four weeks the old floor was gone and a new one put in. In March 2022 a customer wrote that James and Jesse installed mixed-width pine hardwood floors, hammering each square nail by hand using a template they had made. In a March 2021 review, a customer listed work on their metal roof, cupboards, interior and exterior paint, drywall repair, some plumbing and gutter and gutter guard installation, and wrote that they asked the company back for a bathroom remodel and a fence installation. An April 2025 reviewer wrote that James Dawson and young Kenny had good manners and worked fine. In June 2024 a two-star reviewer wrote: "respond in a timely manner and if you are going to call someone do it! Do not set false expectations."
