Commenters call it one of the priciest in the area (September 2026) and considerably more expensive than other companies (December 2025); a September 2026 post put its Belfast delivery price at $5.79 a gallon before the early-pay discount, and an August 2026 post said its price-lock contract option went up to $3.99 a gallon. The service side gets kinder words. In September 2026 Google reviews, two customers said Kenny cleaned their furnace, one adding he checked its efficiency and was quiet and respectful, the other calling the work clean and professional; an October 2026 reviewer praised Josh and his crew and said the office staff answered their questions. On Reddit, a July 2026 commenter said Dead River has kept a nearly 50-year-old oil furnace going, a June 2026 commenter said it repaired boiler damage from an electrical short at no cost, and two December 2025 commenters described reliable delivery that shows up without a call. The complaints are specific. A January 2025 Reddit commenter said a new boiler technician found Dead River had not been fully cleaning their boiler, which had to be replaced for corrosion. On BBB, customers describe being charged $148 for a $35 thermostat, a $250 circulator installed while it was on rebate for $130, and poor treatment over an oil order. A 2014 Reddit commenter said the company charged their account for coupons when they tried to cancel automatic delivery. A March 2026 post said it had turned off online ordering due to price volatility. On Google it holds 4.1 stars from 105 ratings.
