First Class TinKnocker runs its Malden, MA HVAC business almost entirely on heat pumps and ductless mini-splits — nearly every review on file describes one of those installs, and the same two names keep coming up: owner Jason and office manager Nellie. The company calls itself family-owned, and its Massachusetts HVAC license is active and verified with the state. The pattern in the reviews, running from 2023 into this year, is a homeowner getting multiple quotes, choosing Jason after he worked out the install details on-site, then reporting back that the work matched what was promised. A 2024 review described converting two apartments from gas-heated forced water to ductless heat pumps and called the pricing and installation quality terrific; a 2023 review described minimizing the visible tubing runs on a mini-split install so barely any of it shows from outside the house. When something has gone sideways, the response has been quick: a 2025 review said Jason came out within 48 hours for an emergency heat failure on a system another company had installed; a 2023 review described a technician arriving within the hour during a summer heat wave to fix a failed AC unit; and when a 2025 heat-pump install developed a condensation leak six months later, caused by an insulation crew stepping on the drain hose, a crew was sent out right away to fix it. The company also holds a Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network affiliation, and the Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ grade, though it isn't BBB accredited — a separate, opt-in status. Worth knowing: every review on file is a five-star Google review, and Google shows 18 of them, a real but fairly small written sample for a company that its BBB listing says has been in business 14 years. For anything from a whole-house ducted heat pump conversion to a single mini-split, this is a shop reviewers credit with showing up when something breaks and following through afterward — worth asking how the Mass Save rebate paperwork gets handled for your project, since several reviewers mention Jason and Nellie taking that on.
Jason, Nellie and the rest of the crew have been top notch, answering all my questions — excellent service on installation day and follow ups, including navigating all the paperwork to get the tax credit. I really respect the work they do and how responsive they’ve been, from initial quote to working with MassSave, etc. I highly recommend these folks!
Very responsive and respectful. They did excellent work and we are very happy and comfortable. Even a year later they were willing to come out and check our system. Highly recommend working with the Jason and team.
I would highly recommend Jason and his team. We had an emergency issue with our HVAC heat (they were not the initial installers). I reached out to Jason, he came out within 48hrs, was very knowledgeable and helpful. Our heat is now back and in working order. Will definitely use again!
Jason, Nellie, and the TinKnocker team are the best of the best! We had a complex HVAC heating and cooling installation in an old two-family home, and they handled every challenge with patience, precision, and care. They take the time to explain everything so you’re never lost in the process, and Nellie keeps the administrative side running seamlessly - especially if you’re working through the Mass Save program. Their workmanship and professionalism were outstanding from start to finish. Highly recommend them for any HVAC project!
I cant tell you how thankful I am for Jason and his team for coming out. I've had a problem with my heat pump system since a different company installed, and have went through 3 different companies to diagnose and fix and thousands of dollars later to have it fixed in under an hour with Jason and Manny. Highly recommend.
