Freeman Fuel Co

Some Freeman Fuel customers measure their time with the company in decades: in a March 2026 Google review, one wrote they had been a customer for more than 50 years and called the price fair. The Methuen company describes itself as a third-generation family heating-oil and HVAC/plumbing business that has served Massachusetts and New Hampshire for over 63 years, delivering fuel and installing and servicing gas, oil, radiant, cooling and plumbing systems. The BBB lists it as a corporation started in 1953, with John H Freeman as president, and grades it A+. John A Freeman's Massachusetts HVAC licence, 5792-SM-M1, is active on the state registry, and the company's site lists plumbing licences MAPL#15571, MAPL CORP# 3771 and NHPL#4731. On Google it holds 4.4 stars from 31 ratings. A February 2024 reviewer called about a boiler problem, had a technician out right away, and got the repair done the same day. A June 2023 customer of almost 13 years described several after-hours emergency calls, most in the middle of the night, answered quickly. An August 2025 reviewer praised the two young men who installed their AC as professional and courteous. The complaints are specific. In a January 2024 review, a customer wrote that the company refused to service a boiler it had installed about three years earlier because they did not buy their oil from Freeman, said the boiler caused a basement fire the fire department had to put out because something was installed wrong, and described being hung up on by the office. Another January 2024 reviewer wrote that the company will only service your equipment if you buy its oil. Anyone who does not plan to buy oil from Freeman should ask up front whether it will service their equipment.
