The line that keeps coming back in G&G Mechanical's Google reviews isn't a heroic rescue — it's a diagnosis. In February 2026 a longtime customer wrote that a technician arrived to swap a part, found the system still dead, and worked out that the wrong part had been fitted at the original installation by somebody else entirely, then rigged a temporary fix and went back for the right one. The Wakefield shop at 1 E Melvin Street says it launched in 2000 and is family-owned and operated — roughly 26 years of residential and commercial heating, cooling and plumbing. Its own site advertises an A+ BBB rating "for 19 years and counting", which is the company's claim rather than anything confirmed here. Google carries 4.7 stars across 18 ratings, and the seven written accounts run 2023 to 2026. They lean toward installations and what happens after them: a heat pump system put into a house in 2023, where the writer said the sales staff and the installers were equally responsive; an HVAC unit a customer expected to wait months for, finished in a couple of weeks in early 2024 with a salesman named Mike Baldwin and an install crew; an office cooling failure in mid-2024 back up within a few hours. The bluntest account is from 2025, a landlord whose Cambridge condo had a leaking water tank. G&G was there the next morning, the salesperson — also a working plumber — called for a new boiler and tank, and the writer took the recommendation. The sticking point was money, not workmanship: the job ran $13,000, half down, and when he asked to pay the balance over 30 days, management said no. The other thing to settle before you call is availability. In June 2026 a homeowner wrote that the company was not accepting new customers and would not share its standard service and diagnostic fee even as a courtesy. That is the most recent written account of the set, so ask first whether they are taking new work and what a service call costs. They suit an owner who wants one shop maintaining, repairing and eventually replacing existing systems — the reviewers who go into detail are the ones who have used them for years. Confirm they are open to new customers, get the diagnostic fee in plain numbers, and if a full replacement is on the table, settle the payment schedule before the truck rolls.
“G&G Mechanical Inc.”
They were not accepting new customers and refused to offer a simple information at all, even as a courtesy. I asked if they could at least share their standard service/diagnostic fee so I had a baseline, but they declined.
We’ve had our tune ups and service with G&G for several years and I’m so glad I found them. The front office is very responsive and the HVAC staff have all been great. Friendly and knowledgeable. They came to replace a part today and the system still was not working. He took the time to determine the problem wrong part for this model at time of installation. Our unit WAS NOT installed by G and G. He took the time to explain, create a temporary solve, and will be back with tge correct part. Highly recommend G&G!
I rent my condo in Cambridge. Tenant called to let me know water tank is leaking. GG was there the next morning and said I need a new boiler and water tank. The sales person was also an experienced plumber and made the right recommendation. I had no choice and had to replace it that day. The cost was $13k. Needed to put down a 50% deposit As a point of info last year GG installed a new $14k heat pump. I asked if the balance could be paid in 30 days. Mgt told my sales person NO. Balance due now. Not everybody in these times has $13 k available on a minutes notice. Bottom line a rating of 5 for sales and installation. A rating of zero for the greedy owner with no compassion for a repeat customer
AC was out in our office for a few days these guys were able to get it up and running within a few hours. Tech was very nice and professional explained the issue well and got it fixed fast fast.
Professional courteous knowledgeable… thought it would take months to have my HVAC unit they completed within a couple of weeks. Mike Baldwin in sales & the installation team (wish I got their names) were awesome support services excellent they are my go to now I am a newly loyal customer I give them a 10!
