That gap says most of what a homeowner needs to know about Halliday Builders — a Pocasset shop whose work turns up in permit files and design magazines far more often than in review boxes. The company says it began in 1989, when Jim Halliday came to Cape Cod and started building custom homes, and describes itself as family-owned and operated 37 years on: Jim as owner and president, Kristen Halliday Diotte as general manager, Jimmy Halliday running projects. What it sells is whole-house work — new custom construction, renovations, and looking after houses for owners who are away. The written history is short, consistent, and not current: the three Google reviews on file run from August 2023 to January 2024, all five stars, on a page showing 5 out of 5 across seven ratings. The most useful of them, posted in October 2023, describes a full renovation of a cottage set into a dune on West Falmouth Harbor. Those homeowners were in Florida for the duration and visited perhaps three times; they wrote that the crew started on the day promised and finished in the ten months quoted. A August 2023 reviewer credits the family with building their house past the vision they walked in with. Outside the review platforms, the work shows up in print. A 2024 Modern Luxury feature names Halliday as the builder on a Falmouth beach cottage, and a 2025 Boston Design Guide piece lists them beside Catalano Architects on another Falmouth house — architect-led projects rather than quick repairs. Their Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 100548, is active in the state registry under the company's own name. Two things worth raising on the call. The review history is thin and none of it is recent, so ask for references from jobs finished in the past year. And the founding dates don't line up: the BBB profile lists a 2001 business start while the company dates itself to 1989. That BBB page is also unaccredited and carries no rating, with no complaints or government actions published on it. If you're planning a custom build or a gut renovation on the Upper Cape, likely with an architect already involved, this is the shape of outfit that fits. For a single-room repair, ask first whether they take work that size.
