Haycon is a design/build firm based in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood that specializes in Passive House and high-performance construction, with a client list built largely around midsize multifamily and affordable-housing developments. The company says it was founded about 15 years ago by two Boston architects, Patrick Haydon and David Bemiss. Local news coverage credits Haycon as general contractor on a string of subsidized housing projects across Greater Boston -- a $10.6 million MassHousing-financed development in Chelsea, a 2019 workforce-housing project in Dorchester, 45 affordable homeownership units delivered in Jamaica Plain, and a Market Street project now underway in Lynn slated to finish in 2027. But in a May 2025 review, a different customer described the opposite experience on-site -- a foreman with an attitude who spent time on his phone instead of directing the crew, work running about two months behind schedule, and a warning not to hire Haycon for smaller jobs. A federal OSHA inspection recorded since January 2026 found two violations and $11,585 in penalties. For a large-scale, Passive-House-oriented multifamily or affordable-housing build, Haycon's project list speaks for itself; for a smaller residential job, the mixed on-site accounts are worth weighing, and it's worth asking about current crew supervision and licensing directly.
