J.C. Jacobs Plumbing Co. is a family-owned plumbing, heating and remodeling contractor based in Norwood, Massachusetts, run today by Joseph and Joan Jacobs and operating since 1970. A 2026 obituary for a longtime employee notes he worked as a plumber for the company in Norwood for more than 30 years, pointing to a long-tenured crew. Its record is genuinely mixed. Google shows a 4.1-star rating from 28 reviews, and several customers describe prompt, same-day service — one got a hot water heater replaced the same day they called — and found the office staff and plumbers easy to work with. But two reviews describe real trouble: one said a service request went unaddressed while the business still invoiced for it, and another described being given the run-around for close to two months over a leak, charged $100 to tighten a clamp, and told the job was finished when water was still filling a barrel. The Better Business Bureau grades the company A+, though it isn't BBB accredited. For routine plumbing, heating or water heater work in the Norwood area, J.C. Jacobs has a long track record, but given the specific complaints on file, getting a clear written scope and following up promptly if something isn't resolved is a reasonable precaution.
“He worked as a plumber for JC Jacobs Plumbing and Heating in Norwood, Massachusetts for over 30 years”
Chris was great.
I feel the need to call out this business for neither listening to, nor addressing my request for service, and yet, brazenly invoicing me for the "pleasure". When Joe Jacobs (then the plumbing inspector for the Town of Sharon) owned this company, they were recommended by ANOTHER plumber (who was unable to undertake the job) to replace a gas boiler in 2016. The boiler had blown as a result of a poor contract repair job by the utility company, and Joe's company did the installation very well. THEY insisted on hiring an electrician to hard wire a carbon monoxide detector up above the plane of a drop ceiling, where the ceiling tiles were not in place. Recently, however, when the drop ceiling tiles were replaced, it was brought to my attention that we needed the detector to be moved BELOW the ceiling to meet code. I called the company, and explained the problem, both to the scheduler and to "Dave," who now apparently owns the company. Not bothering to explain to me that (1) they could not do anything involving electrical work, and (2) the code requirements had been loosened, and that I could easily have installed a 10 year sealed battery detector, they sent out a plumber, who declined to move the existing detector, but instead started opening a sealed battery detector. I told him that wasn't what I had asked for, and he left within 2 minutes. I was billed $180 for a "service call," where the 2 simple statements above on the phone would have saved them and me the inconvenience (YES, I paid the invoice, not wanting to get into an argument), but this kind of shoddy and irresponsible "business" practice deserves to be exposed.
