JJ Hardwood Floors has one credential most flooring companies can't match: in September 2021 Boston 25 News reported that owner Jay Bourgeois was part of a seven-member team drawn from around the country that restored hardwood floors inside the White House and for the newest Supreme Court Justice.
The company works out of 55 Knox Trail in Acton and says it has been a Boston-based floor company there since 1989, founded by Bourgeois and run as a family business with Julia and Alyssa Bourgeois handling marketing and administration. Its Better Business Bureau file, opened in 1992, records the business as started in 1988 and incorporated in 1991, with 15 employees. The work spans installation, sanding, refinishing, staining, custom patterns and subfloors, on residential, commercial and sports floors alike.
What customers write about most is precision matching and dust. Google carries 4.7 stars from 30 ratings and Houzz a 5.0 from 7. Recent customers describe blending new wood into old so the seam disappears — one in June 2026 after a frozen pipe damaged half a condo floor, another in July 2026 whose room-sized installation matched the cut, colour, finish and edges of the adjacent floors. In a June 2024 review a homeowner said the dustless sanding "lived up to its reputation", and reviewers in 2024 and 2025 described plastic sheeting taped over cabinets, stairwells and fireplaces before sanding began.
The crew is named, repeatedly and by different people: Jay, Andrew, Eli and Jimmy recur across years of comments. A 2024 reviewer valued that the installers are employees rather than subcontractors, and called the prices reasonable for top-tier products. Another in August 2024 said the company dealt directly with their insurance agent after a dishwasher leak and refinished the whole first floor so the repair wouldn't show. Several accounts from 2024 and 2025 turn on hard deadlines met — finishing on time and on budget before a drop-dead move-in date.
One account cuts hard against that. A one-star review posted in February 2024, headed "Stolen Property & Stained Baseboards", alleged that a crew stained the baseboards and that items including a portable grill were taken, and said a settlement was reached with the crew chief. It is the only complaint of its kind in the record, and it is worth raising directly before booking.
They are the call for demanding wood work — historic floors, custom patterns, matching into existing hardwood. Ask who the crew lead will be, how the site will be protected, and confirm the Bona and NWFA certifications the company advertises.

Not only did JJ Hardwood Floors do a superb job installing hardwood flooring in a room of our house, they also did an excellent job of matching the cut, color, finish and edges of the adjacent floors in the house. They were responsive and professional with quotes and pulling the trigger, they cleaned up pretty well afterwards, and took care to manage the odors from the oil based polyurethane finish, which of course linger for days afterward. We love our floor! JJ is not cheap, but they are excellent. We look forward to using them again, and highly recommend them.
Unbelievable service. New condo. Realtor assured us hardwood floors (not true!). Wanted to get refinished on a tight time crunch before moving in. Jimmy accommodated our very tight schedule. Then… floors were laminate and strongly glued to cement. Needed to be ground out which took much longer than planned. Still accommodated our schedule. New floors put in before moving in, but stairs (only true hardwood) didn’t match new flooring. They had to come back to resand and refinish stair treads. Despite what sounds like a tale of woe, Jimmy et al were unbelievably professional, excellent communicators, stood totally behind their work, made everything right and left NO dust. In this day and age of nobody wanting to take responsibility for anything, these guys were so responsible, professional and accommodating to my schedule. And floors are exactly what we wanted. Perfect! I highly recommend JJ Hardwood.
