In Needham, this heating and cooling company has been a Woodcock family business for three generations — the roots go back to an 1872 coal-and-wood outfit that became Needham Oil Company in 1941, moved to 355 Chestnut Street in 1961, and was rebranded Needham Oil Complete Heating & Cooling in 2019. Erinn Woodcock, the current owner, has run it since 2006, and the company describes itself as woman-owned. It works Needham and nearby Norfolk and Middlesex county towns, handling furnace and heat pump installs, AC replacements, and heating oil delivery. Google reviewers name the same technicians over and over — Jim, Alan, Randy, Jeremiah — for furnace tune-ups, heat pump swaps and calls when the heat quits overnight. A 2023 review described replacing an aging attic air conditioner that turned into a bigger job once rainstorms and a rerouted electrical line got involved, and the crew stuck with it. Its Massachusetts HVAC license is active and registered to the company, and its Better Business Bureau profile carries an A+ grade. Not every account matches that pattern. A 2023 review described a two-year dispute over a heat pump the customer said was never installed correctly, which they say one of the company's own technicians confirmed. A 2024 review described a missed first appointment followed by a technician who arrived four hours early and added refrigerant without asking first, and a 2022 review raised concerns about price increases written into an auto-refueling oil contract. A separate Better Business Bureau review reports an unresolved repair complaint. This is a fit for a straightforward furnace, heat pump or AC job in Needham with a locally rooted, decades-old shop rather than a national chain — worth getting any auto-delivery or long-term service contract terms in writing before signing.
We recently purchased a two-stage furnace and ac unit. Jayden, Joe and Tyler did an excellent installation job in cold weather. They worked hard and were extremely easy and pleasant to communicate with. We are exceptionally pleased with the installers and the company.
We woke up Friday morning before a long weekend to 50 degree temps in our house and an alert on my phone that the heat had failed in the middle of the night. Although I had never used them before, living in Needham, I called Needham Oil in the hope that a local shop would be able to get someone to us sooner. When I called the main number, I was told that gas heat was handled out of a different office, in Franklin no less. When I called the Franklin office and told them our situation, Barbara told me that with the current stretch of cold weather she was completely booked up throughout the day, she didn't see anywhere she could fit us in, one tech already had 7 calls, etc. But then she asked for my contact info and address, and said "okay, someone will be there between 8 and 12." I guess at the same time she was telling me how busy they were, Barbara was working her Rubik's cube of a schedule. And at 9:30, Jeremy showed up at our house. It didn't take too long for Jeremy to identify that there was an issue with the control panel. He then spent considerable time trying to determine if he could salvage the existing panel as he didn't believe he could get a replacement before the weekend. No luck with that. But Jeremy was not done, he found a replacement at a nearby supply house. Once the new panel was in place, one zone still was not operating properly, but Jeremy tracked down the issue up to the air handler in our attic and solved the problem. We are grateful to Barbara for her efforts to get us on the schedule and to Jeremy for the quality of his work on site. Complete Heating and Cooling has gained a new customer.
