Several masons told one homeowner the crumbling chimney had to come down. In a 2022 Thumbtack review, that customer wrote that Over The Top saved it instead, in the timeframe promised and at a price they called reasonable. Chimneys are the center of this Pelham company's work — repoints, crowns, caps, liners and the flue repairs that get a fireplace working again — with roofs, gutters and power washing filling out the list. Phil Briffa owns it, and most of the reviews name him. An October 2024 customer had a repoint with a new cap and liner, and described being kept current from estimate to completion. In a March 2024 review, a homeowner had an old ceramic liner swapped out and the fireplace running again; a May 2024 customer had a chase cover and cap replaced. A November 2022 reviewer with bricks coming off the chimney and a damaged flue pipe had it repaired within a week of calling. And in a September 2024 review, a customer with white living-room carpet had a wood stove pulled out and the chimney cleaned, with the room left spotless. The roof side is real too. High winds stripped shingles off a house in March 2025 and the crew was there the next day at what the owner called a reasonable price. An April 2023 customer had a damaged roof replaced in a single day, and an August 2023 homeowner who hired them for a skylight and a flashing leak wrote that they found rotten wood underneath and spent the day on it rather than covering it up. An October 2025 Thumbtack reviewer had a leaking patio roof fixed along with a chimney full of moss and a broken crown. In a November 2023 review, a customer asked about a fireplace damper, was told it worked and didn't need repairing, and wasn't charged for the visit. Not every experience has gone that way. A one-star Google review in April 2026 called the company unprofessional and unreliable and said they'll flake on you at any time, and Thumbtack's 53 ratings run 94% five-star against 6% one-star. Scheduling is the thing to pin down when you book. For a chimney that needs more than a sweep — a repoint, a new liner, a rebuilt crown — or a roof repair that can't wait a week, this is a straightforward call. Get the start date agreed and the estimate in writing before the first visit turns into the job.
We did not end up needing his services but Phil was very professional, helpful and knowledgeable when explaining what needed to be done. Seems like a stand-up guy.
Unprofessional and unreliable. They’ll flake on you at any time.
Phil and his crew did my patio roof, which was leaking. Had a hard rain and all seems great. They also repaired my chimney, which was full of moss and a broken crown and bricks with a lead seal on the roof. Looks fantastic.
These guys were great! The high winds we had in the last week tore off some shingles and they were here in a day fixing it for a reasonable price! Highly recommend!
Over the top home maintenance came out to do a chimney repoint, cap and liner install. Phil was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Great communication from estimate to job completion. Honest, straightforward and quality work. We will be calling over the top for any future needs.
