Two reviews, more than a year apart, tell nearly the same story: you call Chris Power, and Chris Power shows up. Power Masonry & Roofing works out of 3 Susan Rd in Marblehead, and BuildZoom's profile names Christopher J Power as the owner and responsible person. The work spans both trades in the name — BuildZoom lists other masonry, brick and blockwork and stonework, and customers describe roofs and chimneys alongside it. The written history is short and consistent. A homeowner writing in September 2024 said a Swampscott Nest recommendation sent them to Chris Power; they left a voicemail, and he came by within a few days — on a holiday — and got up on the roof to assess the chimney flashing, crown and pointing. In November 2025 another customer said he had done several projects at their house, masonry and the roof both, did an amazing job and cleaned everything up. Two five-star Google reviews is all there is in writing. That thinness is the thing to weigh: two happy customers is not a history you can stress-test, and neither review talks about price, scheduling under pressure, or a job that went sideways. The licensing picture is muddled too. BuildZoom lists two Massachusetts registration numbers for this business — #128213 and #167075 — both shown as inactive and at one point cancelled, and its own page calls #128213 a Mason licence that expired 04-05-2003 in one spot and a Home Improvement Contractor registration in another. Those are the directory's entries, not confirmed ones, so ask him directly and check the numbers with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs before you sign anything. One more thing not to misread: BuildZoom's 0 score for the company comes from permits and licence status, not from customers — the site has no reviews for them at all. If you're on the North Shore and want chimney pointing, crown and flashing work from the owner himself rather than a crew handed the job, the two people who wrote about him were glad they called. Get the registration confirmed and the scope in writing first.

Chris has done a few projects here including masonry and the roof. They did an amazing job, cleaned everything up, and are professional. Highly recommend!

We had a job that required both roofing and masonry, and Swampscott Nest recommended Chris Power. We left Chris a voicemail and he came by our house just a few days later, on a holiday no less! He got right up on the roof to asses the chimney flashing, crown and pointing. He was very up-front about what needed to be done, and what didn't. He dropped off a detailed quote that week, we hired him and less than a week later, the two-day job was complete. Throughout the process, Chris was friendly, responsive and great to work with. We'd gladly work with Chris again.

What does a roof replacement cost in Greater Boston?
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Power Masonry & Roofing. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.
Estimated range
$9,000 – $18,600
Typical roofing project around $13,800
