The tell for Premier Builders is what sits across the street from its own office: an 8,000-square-foot millwork shop. This is a Georgetown general contractor whose cabinet division has collected Cabinet Maker's Association Wood Diamond awards on and off since 2010 — three first places in 2013, two more and a second place in 2016 — plus a BRAGB Prism Silver in 2015, and that focus shows in the work it takes on. Its Marblehead job is a neat illustration: a $49,082 alteration permit at 24 Adams Rd in January 2024 covering new closet millwork, relocated recessed lighting and a laundry drain. Elsewhere the numbers run much larger — a $461,660 first-floor and master-bathroom renovation in Topsfield, a $196,000 second-floor sunroom addition in West Newbury, a garage converted to an accessory dwelling unit. Thirty-four permitted projects in all, and the company says it has been at this since 1986, with five people on the payroll under president Kenneth Kumph. It is not residential-only. BBB describes tenant construction in commercial and retail buildings and storefronts, and five 2020 permits in Salisbury are filed as commercial porch and deck repairs. The stated service area also crosses a state line — Atkinson, Plaistow and Newton Junction on its Houzz list are New Hampshire towns. The honest gap is the written record, which is real but old. Two customers have posted: one in November 2016 praised a finished bathroom and a job site kept clean, and one in August 2013 described a major renovation involving wall removal, a new bathroom and hardwood floors, calling the quality superb. Two accounts, both roughly a decade back, is thin for a firm this established. BBB grades it A+ while stating on the same page that the business is not accredited — two separate facts that are easy to conflate. Neither licence number was confirmed against the state here: Houzz prints a construction supervisor number, CSL-043171, and BuildZoom a home improvement contractor registration, 105043 — the normal pairing for a firm doing structural work, but both are directory entries. Look them up yourself, and if your project is a kitchen or built-ins, ask to see the millwork shop. That is the part of this business worth hiring for.

We had a major renovation including removal of some walls, a new bathroom, and the installation of hardwood floors done by Premier Builders. The work was done in a timely manner and the quality of all aspects of this job was superb. I highly recommend them.
