Several vendors looked at one homeowner's oddly shaped kitchen and passed on the job. Mannie Afonso took it because the challenge interested him, and then, by that homeowner's 2024 account, used every last inch of the room. RiversEdge Kitchen & Home Design works out of Stow, and it is Mannie's business end to end — his name is in nearly every review going back to 2014. The company says he brings more than 25 years in kitchen and bath design and remodeling, a background as a general contractor and a BS in Architecture, and describes the work as kitchen and bath design, custom cabinetry, tile, flooring, plumbing fixtures and vanities across Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. What customers describe most is being walked through the decisions rather than sold to. A January 2026 reviewer credited him with the layout, cabinet selection, countertop, fixtures and colors of their kitchen renovation. In a February 2026 review, a first-time homeowner said he was giving her advice on how to start her floors before she had ordered anything. A 2024 Houzz customer putting a major kitchen and pantry into a house addition had him from layout design through choosing the cabinet brand to installing the cabinets. Smaller jobs turn up too: interior doors picked to a budget and an aesthetic in a December 2024 review, bathroom vanities and flooring materials in March 2024, and a backsplash in a 2017 review whose crew left the kitchen usable every evening of the four-day job. Two things worth knowing. Part of the written history is old — three of the fourteen reviews predate 2020, the earliest from 2014. And where Houzz prints a licence, this profile carries a BS in Architecture, which is the degree the company reports rather than a trade credential; the state registration is the one that was checked. For a kitchen or bath where the design and the cabinetry are the hard part — an awkward footprint, a layout that has to change, cabinets built to fit — this is the kind of shop people describe coming back to. Ask who will be swinging the hammer on your job: reviewers describe both Mannie's own installation work and other contractors he works alongside.
I am a new homeowner and when I was looking at remodeling, I had no clue where and when to start. Before I even ordered Manny was giving me advise on how I should start installing my floors and tips and tricks that would make my life easier in the long run. I swear I wouldn't be near as close to done without him. Usually when you hire somebody, they just do a job and leave, not Manny, he helps you complete the project by giving advise along the way. He knows everything about home improvement. When it came to the kitchen cabinets and the counter tops, he made the process seamless and was efficient beyond belief. He surprises me with more and more knowledge every time I speak with him. I highly recommend his services if you have any doubts and if you are worried about costs he will give you all the information you need to make a good decision where it is also price sensitive. 10/10 service

We’ve been renovating our home for a number of years now and recently worked with Mannie, who replaced all of our interior doors. He helped us to choose the right style and type of door based on our budget, design aesthetic, and strong desire to only put quality products in our home. I continue to be amazed by Mannie’s attention to detail. He was meticulous and took the time to make sure that everything was perfect. In fact, he did such a great job on this project that we asked him to both design and install our new kitchen - a project that is currently underway.
Simply put, Mannie has been tremendous! We were in search of a designer who understood our needs and feel so fortunate to have found him. Mannie’s eye and perspective are second to none and he has made our project incredibly efficient due to his years of experience with not only design, but also being a contractor. We initially worked with Mannie on our fireplace, but are now expanding our scope to include lighting, kitchen cabinet design and the overall design flow of our first floor. We are very excited to continue working with Mannie and enjoying our home that much more thanks to his expertise.
