Rizzo Plumbing & Heating is a family-run South Weymouth shop — John Rizzo, a self-described Master Plumber, runs it with Judy Rizzo handling the office — but its Massachusetts plumber license (13713-PL-M, held in John Rizzo's name) has lapsed according to the state registry. Google shows a 3.4-star average from 23 ratings, and the eight written reviews on file split sharply: five positive, three negative, with the negative reviews concentrated in the past year. Earlier reviews describe straightforward, well-handled jobs — a garbage disposal swap with an unfussed look at a running toilet, two jobs called thorough and pleasant, and a 2024 Reddit thread recommending the company as quick and reasonably priced. But the three most recent written reviews tell a different story. In a 2026 review, a customer described a sump pump that failed immediately after installation, leaving the basement flooding after every rain; the company blamed the weather and reportedly tried to charge $500 to come back and look at it, with another plumber later saying a low-quality pump had been used. In a 2025 review, a customer described what started as a simple kitchen sink reconnection ending in a water leak that damaged a finished basement — about $5,000 worth — with the company declining to help and directing them to their insurance instead. A third 2026 review called the service unprofessional, costly and inconsistent without further detail. Given the lapsed license and the specificity of the recent complaints, it's worth confirming current licensing status directly and getting everything — especially warranty and liability terms — in writing before any work begins.
“Highly recommended, quick service, reasonable pricing”
John was great
Unfortunately, my experience was not positive. I found the service to be unprofessional, costly, and inconsistent. I would not use them again.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE John and Joe installed a sump pump that failed immediately, our basement flooded after every rain. They ignored our repeated complaints and blamed the weather instead of fixing the problem. When we pushed for help, John was extremely rude and tried to charge an extra $500 just to come back. Another plumber confirmed they used a cheap, low-quality pump. Unprofessional, overpriced, and unreliable. Avoid at all costs.
Simple job to disconnect and reconnect kitchen sink. Was disconnected and when I came home was bubbling hot water into the finished basement ceiling and walls. Resulted in half the basement room being torn down to the stud and redone. John said to send the bill along and they would help make it right. Month goes by with no reply from them. Finally get them on the phone and John immediately begins using profane language and telling me they are not going to do anything so send it to insurance. Was left with about 5k in damages. Do not recommend using them at all.
I’ve never had this bad of an experience. The worst company ever, He was very unprofessional and rude. I have never spoken to someone with this much ignorance. I suggest not doing business with this company/people. There are tons of better companies out there. If I could give a 0 star rating I would.
