Rizzo Plumbing & Heating has been around South Weymouth long enough to rack up 23 Google ratings, but the last few months tell a rougher story than that average suggests: two of its three most recent reviews are one-star, both describing installs that went wrong and calls that went unanswered. The company says it's family-owned, run by John Rizzo, a Master Plumber who worked for larger firms before starting the business himself, with his wife Judy running the office. It says it covers a specific stretch of the South Shore — Weymouth, Hingham, Abington, and Rockland — handling everyday plumbing plus heating work like oil-to-gas conversions. One recent reviewer says a sump pump Rizzo installed failed right away, flooding the basement after every rain; pushing for a fix reportedly got them blamed on the weather, a rude call from John, and a request for another $500 just to come back and look. A second recent review, light on specifics, calls the work unprofessional, costly, and inconsistent and says they wouldn't hire the company again. A third from the same stretch is a simple, unembellished "John was great." That split — two soured jobs against one plain compliment — sits inside a longer pattern of complaints about work going wrong and disputes over who pays to fix it, even though the Google star average, built on 23 ratings, still lands at 3.4. Before booking, it's worth asking directly how a callback gets handled if an install doesn't hold — warranty terms, who covers any water damage, and whether a return trip comes with an extra charge — since that's the exact dispute more than one recent customer describes. For routine plumbing and heating work in its home towns — repairs, water heaters, gas line jobs, oil-to-gas swaps — Rizzo is a reasonable call, but given how recently things went sideways for a couple of customers, get the warranty and pricing for any install spelled out before the crew starts.

Unfortunately, my experience was not positive. I found the service to be unprofessional, costly, and inconsistent. I would not use them again.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE John and Joe installed a sump pump that failed immediately, our basement flooded after every rain.

They ignored our repeated complaints and blamed the weather instead of fixing the problem. When we pushed for help, John was extremely rude and tried to charge an extra $500 just to come back.

Another plumber confirmed they used a cheap, low-quality pump.

Unprofessional, overpriced, and unreliable. Avoid at all costs.

Simple job to disconnect and reconnect kitchen sink. Was disconnected and when I came home was bubbling hot water into the finished basement ceiling and walls. Resulted in half the basement room being torn down to the stud and redone. John said to send the bill along and they would help make it right. Month goes by with no reply from them. Finally get them on the phone and John immediately begins using profane language and telling me they are not going to do anything so send it to insurance. Was left with about 5k in damages. Do not recommend using them at all.

I’ve never had this bad of an experience. The worst company ever, He was very unprofessional and rude. I have never spoken to someone with this much ignorance. I suggest not doing business with this company/people. There are tons of better companies out there. If I could give a 0 star rating I would.
