Osterville's permit files make the best argument for this outfit: BuildZoom counts 158 permitted projects under Scott Peacock Building & Remodeling, spread across the Barnstable villages. Very few customers have written anything down about them, which makes that paper trail the most telling thing here. The company works out of Osterville and calls itself a locally owned general contractor — home building, remodeling of kitchens, baths and custom homes, restoration, and property management, with commercial work available as well. It says the owner, Scott, oversees each project himself. Its stated service area is Cotuit, Marstons Mills, Centerville, Osterville, Hyannis, Barnstable and West Barnstable, and its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#151853) is active, verified against the state registry in the company's own name. What customers have written is short and warm. Google carries 5★ across 4 ratings, and the single written review, posted in May 2022, came from homeowners who hired the crew to build a small two-story cottage on their property — they credited Peacock with tracking down materials during that year's shortages, and had as much praise for his subcontractors, electricians through painters, as for his own team. Cape Cod LIFE has written about him twice: a 2013 article quoted him on a historic Osterville kitchen renovation, and a 2016 profile described a builder who had been at it on the Cape for more than 30 years. Two things are worth raising before you call. The tenure story doesn't line up — the company says 30 years, while its BBB page puts the business's start and incorporation at June 2006 and lists a single employee, so ask who will actually be on your site and which subcontractors they use. And almost nobody has reviewed them publicly: BBB is unrated because it says it doesn't have enough information, and neither Houzz nor BuildZoom has collected a review. For an addition, a custom cottage, or a whole-house remodel in the Barnstable villages, this is a small, licensed shop with a long permit history and one happy account on paper. Ask for two or three recent nearby addresses you can call, and get the schedule and the subcontractor list in writing.
“After more than 30 years of building and remodeling homes on Cape Cod, Scott Peacock still loves what he does—and that, he says, has been the key to his success.”
““She gave us the ideas,” says Peacock, the founder of Osterville’s Scott Peacock Building & Remodeling. “It was our job to make it all work.””
We hired Scott Peacock and his team to build a small 2 story cottage on our property. He and his team were such a pleasure to work with. He went out of his way to find materials for our project in a time when there were shortages of building materials. He listened to what we wanted and gave us it. Each and every time we step into the cottage we smile. It is absolutely beautiful. It’s all we ever wanted and so much more. I also can’t say enough about the subcontractors he uses. Everyone from the electrician all the way to the painters were so lovely to work with. We recommend he and his team to anyone looking for remodeling/building expertise.
