A 2024 customer said SLS Heating had fire back in their boiler 2 hours after the office answered the phone, on a 12-degree Monday morning. That 2024 customer said Skip listened to the description, went straight to the problem, and called the cost very fair. A 2022 customer said SLS came out within 3 hours to an oil burner that kept needing a reset, made a slight adjustment, and charged half an hour of labor. A 2021 customer said SLS installed a new furnace on one side of a duplex and an oil tank on the other, and came after hours when the other furnace would not start; that 2021 customer called the after-hours restart kind of pricey. A 2022 customer said SLS came in about an hour after a pipe burst on a Sunday, and Jim and his team installed a new pipe the next day. A 2023 reviewer said the repairmen showed up on the promised day and described the lead guy on heating repairs as "a skilled old-timer." A 2022 customer said water and oil turned up on the basement floor the day after a technician cleaned their boiler. That 2022 customer said no one showed up or called for a later estimate appointment, was then told the company no longer installs boilers, and filed complaints with the BBB and the Connecticut Attorney General. A 2023 customer said four appointments to clean an a.c. and furnace ended with no one showing up or calling. A 2023 customer said the company cashed a $240 check while a promised return visit brought no call and no service. A 2024 customer said Skip did not honor the warranty after a piece broke on a new furnace he installed for the customer's blind, elderly mother. A 2022 Reddit thread in r/connecticut, titled "Beware SLS HEATING out of New London!", said the poster's in-laws had their calls for service ignored and another company found the boiler was never checked on the inside. A 2023 customer advised getting in writing everything Skip says is covered, including when the warranty expires.
“Beware SLS HEATING out of New London! My in-laws had their boiler being serviced by them for years. The company has been ignoring their calls for a service this year so they called someone else. According to the other company, their boiler was never checked on the inside and could have blown up by how messed up it was, and it was years in the making. They are now having a new boiler installed for $10-15k when they should have had a couple more years with this one.”
Skip used to be a better businessman. He left my blind, elderly mom & longtime customer hanging after a piece broke on the new furnace he installed. He never honored his warrantee, to add to the situation- he implied she had something to do with the furnace breaking. Like, Sir, u know damn well she doesn’t go down in the basement since she can’t see. Do yourself a favor, don’t waste your time with a business that doesn’t care about its customers.
If there was a way to give more than 5 stars, I would. SLS is easily one of the best companies to work with. The response time was absolutely incredible. I had fire back in my boiler 2 hrs after the guy in the office answered the phone, and this was on a 12 degree Monday morning. Skip is a wonderful, knowledgeable man that listened to what I was describing and tried and then went straight to the problem. The cost was very fair, VERY. I cannot fathom any complaints with SLS. They exemplify old school customer service that is missing today. Call them, please, call them! You won't be sorry
Four appointments to have a.c. and furnace cleaned. Four times never showed up or called.
Been using SLS for a number of years now. Always found them to be professional and competitive with there pricing
If you're looking for quite the pair to give you the worse customer service and you don't care for professionalism, then this is your company. Can't describe who's worse, the owner or his so called "secretary". But if you happen to be in dire need to stick to the bottom of the barrel then do yourself a favor, make sure you get a copy of everything, i mean everything "Skip" says is covered so you dont find yourself realizing he never gave you the contract (that one was on me as a brand new postpartum mom i just needed heat for my fam and wasnt thinking of the technicalities at the time) . Make sure he puts in writing when the warranty will expire or he will lie his way and falsify paperwork when asked for the initial contract.
