Call Swampscott Refrigeration and there's a good chance the tech who shows up already has a name attached in past reviews — Tony, John, Jack, and Jake turn up again and again through 2026. The company describes itself as family-owned, tracing back to 1951 when Charles V. Carone started it in a workshop behind his own house in Swampscott; James V. Carone, by the company's own account, still runs it today out of Lynn, covering North Shore towns from Salem to Marblehead to Peabody. The stretch from January through July of this year reads like the company at its best: a thermostat swapped same-day rather than the whole-system replacement another company had quoted at over $20,000, a first-time AC visit where the technician walked through the filter and outdoor unit before leaving tips, a heating fix credited to Tony and Jake finished the same day it was called in. Google puts them at 4.2 stars across 25 ratings, and a separate directory pins the number at 4.3 from 23 reviews — close enough to trust as a rough read on where they sit. The rougher patch sits in the middle of 2025: several one-star reviews describe repairs that didn't fully resolve the problem and disagreements over parts pricing, including more than one complaint tied to a paid tune-up service. None of that recurs in the 2026 reviews, but it's specific enough to raise directly before booking — what exactly a tune-up covers, and what happens if something needs a follow-up visit. One more thing worth a quick question: a June 2026 review describes a scheduling mix-up, with the office and the technician giving conflicting windows for when someone would arrive. It's a single account, but it's the most recent complaint on file. They're a reasonable call for the everyday HVAC job — a dead thermostat, a furnace on the fritz, a seasonal tune-up — and they carry an active Massachusetts HVAC license and Mass Save certification. Given the 2025 complaints, it's worth pinning down what a tune-up includes and getting the scope in writing before the truck rolls.

I am very thankful for the professionalism of the two techs who serviced my hvac issue. In the end, I needed a new thermostat which they installed on the same day as their visit. Two weeks without air conditioning and had another company telling me I needed a whole new unit with a quote over 20 thousand dollars. So grateful that Swampscott Refrigeration values honesty and integrity as well as an incredibly affordable fee.

Didn’t actually have them do any work but the scheduling process was already a mess. Called to book appointment for the next day and I specifically told the office my availability is 9-1 then.

Got a phone call the day before at 5PM and the technician was asking if I communicated that I’m only available next day and told me “Oh but I’m only 5 minutes away” while I’m at work. I told the technician again that I’m only available from 9-1 on the second day.

Did not get any contact about if they cannot make it during that time on the 2nd day and I had to call in to check, the office just simply said you’re still on the calendar and we’ll give you a call when the technician is available with no apologies or whatsoever

People have work and other things in life. Improve your scheduling system.

Great first time visit from Swampscott Refrigeration, our technician Jack explained everything to me and cleaned out the outside unit and inspected the inside, ran the air, checked our filter, very professional and gave me some great tips! Will be using them as my yearly maintenance, highly recommend!
