The Floor Sanders is Varouj's Boston-based hardwood flooring company, founded in 1983 and still doing hardwood installation, sanding and refinishing, laminate installation, and wood athletic/gym floors across a wide swath of towns west and north of Boston. The company's reviews stretch back to 2013 and, according to one of them, Varouj had already been doing this work for two decades before that. Across the majority of that long written record, the praise is specific and consistent: reviewers repeatedly cite Varouj's responsiveness — quotes turned around from a text and a few photos — and craftsmanship on genuinely difficult jobs. A 2022 review describes matching new oak into an odd hodgepodge of angles capped by a curved opening at the top of a spiral staircase in a 110-year-old Beacon Hill condo; another from the same year describes sanding old dark-painted stairs back to bare, gorgeous wood. A 2013 review describes discovering extensive hidden damage under carpet mid-job and still matching the oak color and finishing on time. That said, a real minority of reviews describe a different pattern: visible flaws that couldn't be corrected after the fact. A 2022 review describes a patch in a living room left with visible applicator marks that Varouj said any further work would only make worse. A 2017 review describes a light sanding job the customer felt was undersized for the price paid. And the most recent account on file, from March 2026, describes patch and refinishing issues on a 2019 remodel that took multiple return visits to address, leaving the customer only somewhat satisfied with the final result — though the finish has held up since. For a Boston-area hardwood job — especially something with genuinely tricky geometry or a rescue of an old, damaged floor — The Floor Sanders' decades of specific, skilled work count for a lot. But given the recurring pattern of unresolved cosmetic flaws, it's worth asking directly how they'd handle it if a patch or finish doesn't come out right the first time.
Had the floor sanders refinished and patch my old Douglas fir flooring on my first floor after open floor plan remodel in 2019. They were very professional and came back multiple times to try and fix the issues. We were somewhat happy with the results and the finish has held up. The areas where they had to patch in with similar old floors however, have all gone downhill. Totally regret not ripping out and starting with new flooring. Not sure if patching floors is just a bad idea or they didn’t do it well, but anyhow my floors are falling apart. The main problem is that some planks were shaved from the bottom resulting in them sinking each time you step on them. I don’t understand why they did that.
Varouj was extremely quick to respond and his team was able to get the floors in our new home sanded and sealed in record time. We were concerned about finding someone to do the work within our budget, after losing another company earlier in the week, but The Floor Sanders Co was able to take the project on and complete it within our time frame. Amazing! They took the extra time to make it perfect. And they were the best price! I would use them again for sure. (Wood Flooring Refinish)
We couldn't be more thrilled with the results delivered by Varouj and his team. From start to finish, the experience was seamless - fair pricing, on-time execution, and truly beautiful results. Their professionalism and craftsmanship exceeded our expectations. (Wood Flooring Refinish, $2,500)
I reached out to the Floor Sanders Co and spoke with Varouj. He was very professional and worked with me to fully understand the process since I was completely unfamiliar. There was a small miscommunication about what finish to use on the flooring, but this was remediated by Varouj very quickly. They did a great job and I love the new refinished floors.
