Value Construction's written customer history stops in 2011. That is the first thing to know about a Winthrop remodeler whose Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active right now — a real credential attached to a reputation that hasn't been written about in fifteen years. The company works out of 231 Court Road, and the Better Business Bureau names Vito Meola as general manager, grading the business A+ without accreditation. Bathrooms are what people hired them for. A 2011 reviewer described a full bathroom gutted and rebuilt and said the crew stayed until the details were right; another that year said Tony walked through the estimate without pushing extras and the final bill landed close to it. Decks, stairs, tile and siding fill out the rest — a 2010 customer described a 5x10 deck built around a round pool, and another that year a rebuilt back stair with a six-foot sidewalk extension. The same window holds the complaints, and they are specific enough to matter. A December 2010 reviewer said the job ran three times longer than agreed, that no permits were pulled, and that water leaked through and ruined a first-floor ceiling. A second December 2010 account described meetings the crew simply didn't show up for, including the first day of work, and defects they never came back to fix. In March 2011 a customer reported grout and caulk popping out of a seven-month-old shower. A November 2010 reviewer felt treated as filler between larger jobs and said an overpayment was never refunded. Angi's 4.4 average across 50 ratings sits above the tone of the two dozen review cards it actually renders, all of them from 2009 to 2011. What is confirmed today is narrow but solid: the state registry shows home improvement contractor registration 157579 active under Value Construction LLC, and BuildZoom lists that same number. Angi also lists an EPA Lead Safe certification — the platform's listing, not something checked against an issuer. Porch shows a 5.0, but it rests on two aggregated ratings with no written accounts behind it. This is a call for a homeowner willing to do their own diligence on a long-established local shop rather than one relying on recent public reviews. Ask for two or three jobs finished in the last year and the addresses to go with them, get the permit plan named in writing before any demolition starts, and put the schedule, the payment milestones and the punch-list terms in the contract — the old complaints cluster precisely on scheduling, permits and follow-through.
I loved these guys. The did a wonderful job.
This was my first experience using a contractor for a major project and I was very happy with my choice of Value construction. Tony is an honest and equitable contractor who worked with us every step of the way. He understood our wants and needs and was helpful in instances when we needed guidance or advice. He clearly knows his business and is experienced with all aspects of the building trade. As per our contract he started the project on time and worked continually to make the whole process go as smoothly and quickly as possible despite a few setbacks that came up and were out of our control.
Tony came in and gave me an estimate for my bathroom. He understood exactly what I needed and wanted to have done. He didn't try to push anything on me that I didn't want (like some of the others did in their estimates). I trusted him right from the beginning and new I would select his company. The guys came in and did their work. If there was something I didn't like they fixed it. Great job all around. And I was very impressed that it came very close to Tony's original estimate. Thanks for the wonderful job and I would definitely hire Value Construction again!
Very quick and clean, I would hire again.
Very good experience with Value Construction. It was a small project, but with lots of complications. Their customer service was awesome; they accommodated all my needs at a fair price.
