Benchmark Kitchen & Bath is a Salem showroom where Marc and Linda design kitchens and baths, and the reviews split almost perfectly along one line: what happens before the order is placed, and what happens after. Before is where the praise lives. An August 2025 customer replacing every cabinet in a den and master bath — with the awkward constraint of keeping the cabinets on the same walls while fitting a very large television — singled out the design software as remarkably realistic, showing exactly what the room would look like. Another in August 2025 put an addition on the house expanding bedroom, bathroom and kitchen and said Linda was the one who turned their vision into something buildable, meeting and redesigning several times. A September 2025 client described a several-year relationship and a workspace their wife loves. After is where three one-star accounts cluster. The most recent, from June 2026, is from someone who says they are happy with the layout and design but that once the order was placed the trouble started — twelve months from the start of the project, nine months from the cabinet install, with issues still unresolved. In August 2025 a reviewer who says they have run a fair number of large projects called the experience extremely unprofessional, reported the cabinets Benchmark had recommended were poor quality, and said the company went quiet when it came time to file warranty repairs. In September 2023 a first-time renovator who had asked explicitly for high communication described a difficult time with both of them. Google sits at 3.9 across 11 ratings, and the one review in the last six months is a one-star. The company presents itself as a design showroom offering in-showroom guidance, home measurement and 3D rendering across Salem, Marblehead, Lynn, Arlington, Tewksbury and the wider North Shore; a 2021 reviewer from a Marblehead carpentry firm, who refers cabinet and design clients here, wrote that Marc is a licensed contractor who ran a construction company for years. If you want the design and visualization stage done well, this is a real strength and the reviews back it. The risk sits downstream. Before ordering, pin down the delivery and installation dates in writing, get the cabinet manufacturer's warranty terms and claim process directly from the manufacturer rather than the showroom, and agree what happens — and what it costs — if the schedule slips.
I'm happy with the layout/design but once the order was placed, the lies started. We are 12 months from the start of our project, 9 months from the cabinet install, and we still have unresolved issues.
Marc thinks he's smarter than everyone in the room and that people believe his lies.
1. Lied about delivery date. We discussed mid July from the start as our demo started 7/5. At end of July Marc said cabinets were due in at end of August "like we always discussed". Each time I pointed out the mid July delivery, he would gaslight me and say it was always end of August.
2. Our appliance panels did not arrive. He tried to blame us and said we never told him how we would want them mounted, so he was unable to order them, as if we have any idea there are multiple ways to do this. He also never asked us the mounting question.
3. Two doors arrived damaged. He lied and said they were on order multiple times. They have never come in. He blames his software, their software, vacation schedules, he had surgery. On and on and on. Then said they were in his warehouse multiple times and he would personally install. Its been A YEAR and nothing.
4. He ordered our vent hood and the hood doesn't have the normal screen that all other residential hoods have. For at least 6 months, he blamed the contractor for throwing it away. He said he personally saw it on sight. Then said he recalled scanning it in when it arrived. We kept asking for a replacement from him to finally tell us, 9 months later, that our hood doesn't come with a screen. He's never resolved this either.

Marc lives in a world where he cannot take accountability for mistakes. He thinks he can lie his way out of everything and believes people are stupid and believe him. He can never answer direct questions (yes, no, this is the date); he does voice to text and its always long, super jumbled, filled with errors and often doesn't even answer the question we asked.

I finally asked for compensation for the two doors and the screen for the hood and crickets. I do NOT recommend working with him and I hope our contractor stops referring to him. Its a poor reflection on a excellent contractor who was on time and on budget.
We are happy to declare that we have had a GREAT relationship with Marc and Linda for the past several years! They helped us design and put together a REALLY great work space that my wife loves and have been supportive throughout the entire process. Even to the point of helping us figure out how to get our sink replaced as we had not chosen the proper style originally. (one big tub verses two separate tubes :-) )
We would highly recommend working with these folks!
I recently had Benchmark Kitchen and Bath replace all the cabinets in my den and master bath. The challenge in the den was to keep the cabinets on the same walls but allow for a very large screen tv. The design program they use was incredibly realistic, giving you a view of the final product installed. The fit was perfect and the factory finish is amazing. The cabinet manufacturer even made the counter tops to match the cabinets. The master bath in our old house is small compared to newer houses so finding storage space was a challenge. Marc and Linda came up with a great plan and now there are actually empty drawers and shelves compared to the old bathroom.
Having the right installer is as important as choosing the right kitchen showroom team. The installer recommended, did an amazing job on our out of square rooms and everything is straight and level. If I knew it was going to be this easy I would have done this years ago.
I have done a fair amount of large projects over the years, and my experience with Mark and Linda was extremely unprofessional. The cabinets that they highly recommended were of poor quality and then they disappeared when it came time to submit repairs under the warranty. I would strongly not recommend Benchmark for your dream kitchen.
What a great experience we had with Linda and Marc. We put an addition on our house which expanded our bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. My wife had the vision for the kitchen and Linda was amazing at making it come true. Not an easy task. We met and redesigned the area several times and Linda kept up and also offered some amazing changes and insight. The bathroom had it's challenges but again Linda come up with a redesign and was able to give us everything we wanted, including a laundry room.
The quality of the cabinetry and drawers were top notch. We did have one ding on a door but Marc reordered one and came over and switched it out a few weeks later. He was overly concerned with how everything lined up and made adjustments to other areas of the kitchen and bathroom. A perfectionist and great testament to customer satisfaction.
We loved the use of the 2020 Design Software to give us a clear vison of what the project will look like. Linda is a whiz on that. We were very involved in the design and had several visits to the showroom to pitch ideas make changes. Linda was very accommodating even when we came in for just a quick chat. But always try to have an appointment. If you do go in try to bring a plain donut. She likes those. hahahaha
Seriously a great experience and a beautiful outcome for us on a large project.
Robert and Terri Simonelli
