Cape Appliance Repairs is a Hyannis-based appliance repair company serving Cape Cod, hired for refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and stove repairs on major brands. Reviewers consistently single out the technician Chris by name for careful diagnosis and follow-through — sourcing a hard-to-find part for a 20-year-old ice machine, crafting a fix for a 1970s cooktop with no parts left on the market, and returning within a week to finish jobs that needed ordered parts. The company also owns its mistakes: when a second issue on a refrigerator repair couldn't be fixed, it fully refunded the customer for the part that didn't work, and another customer credits the office with reconsidering and refunding a disputed service charge. Google puts the business at 4.7 stars from 124 ratings, and the Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ grade. Before booking, ask exactly what the diagnostic visit fee covers. Several one-star reviews describe paying $175–$180 for a visit that ended with a verbal diagnosis and no repair, no callback, or a part they didn't want; one reviewer says the company charged their card a second time without notice and never returned for the promised follow-up. A separate review describes a technician condemning a stove after a one-minute look, when the actual problem turned out to be a faulty outlet. These accounts sit alongside a larger set of five-star reviews that specifically call the pricing fair and reasonable, so the split looks more like inconsistency between visits than a fixed policy. The most recent Google reviews lean more negative than the historical average — two of the last four describe unresolved repairs and steep diagnostic charges — worth weighing alongside the longer five-star record. Cape Appliance Repairs is a reasonable call for major-appliance repairs on Cape Cod, particularly on older units or premium brands where sourcing the right part matters, and the company has shown it will refund work that doesn't pan out. Confirm the diagnostic fee, what it covers, and get a clear estimate before authorizing any repair or replacement part.
Can’t recommend. Had to get a dishwasher pump replacement and the guy wouldn’t even remove the dishwasher as he said “it was glued in”. Told him I would do it and to come back same day. I ended up removing the dishwasher in 5 minutes and ended up replacing the pump myself as they wouldn’t come back to do the job for another 5 days. My work was better in the end.
The response time and follow-up were outstanding and the ability to diagnose the problem and provide a cost-effective solution was impressive.
I understand charging $180 for a diagnostic visit — a technician needs to properly assess the issue before recommending repairs. That’s fair. What’s not acceptable is what we experienced. Chris showed up and did what can only be described as a rushed, 5-minute “drive-by” assessment. With total confidence, he insisted the problem was the damper control — no real inspection, no effort to investigate the other issues I clearly described. When I followed up by sending additional photos to the office highlighting my concerns, I was dismissed with, “the technician is confident in his assessment.” So we trusted them and paid another $275 for the part and installation. After installing it, Chris then noticed moisture on the back of the refrigerator and casually informed me that the unit is “compromised” and has a leak — essentially confirming the fridge is failing and needs to be replaced. That raises a major question: what exactly did the $180 “assessment” cover? Because identifying a critical issue like a leak seems like the bare minimum of a proper diagnosis. Instead, we were steered into spending over $500 on a repair that never had a chance of solving the real problem. Chris himself was polite, but the service was careless, overly confident, and ultimately expensive in the worst way. *** Bottom line: if you use this company, do not accept a quick, surface-level diagnosis and push for a thorough evaluation — or you may end up paying hundreds of dollars for a fix that shouldn’t have been recommended in the first place, only to replace your appliance anyway. P.S. They acknowledged their oversight and refunded us $50 for the labor charge to install the part... which also took 5 minutes... Oh, thanks for that!
Cape Appliance Repair answered my message request for service after hours and were able to come out the next day. They fixed the issue promptly and have excellent communication. Highly recommend!!
If you DONT want to get ripped off you go with someone else. Had me order and pay for a washing machine gasket before the service call. Came with the gasket I didn't need. Said I should wait until the machine leaks. Here 5 minutes. Left me with the unwanted part $116 and a bill for $173 to deliver the part. A $300 lesson. Be wise.
