Cobblestone Group is a Boston general contractor and construction manager working from the South End to Cape Cod, with a stated focus on historic renovations and waterfront residential projects. Its written record runs from 2016 to 2021 and is mostly strong: architects, homeowners and a design partner describe full-scope renovations handled with structural problem-solving and careful finish work. The deepest accounts come from 2016. One homeowner hired Cobblestone for a year-long total renovation of a 1952 house in preparation for a sale, with the scope growing as structural issues surfaced; another describes an extensive renovation of a 1900s home's kitchen, bathroom and family room plus an addition that Cobblestone tied seamlessly into the original structure. An architecture firm working alongside Cobblestone on a large Boston gut renovation that same year called it one of the best collaborations they've had with a construction company, and a separate review describes Brian personally inspecting fire damage before the crew completed kitchen repairs with daily cleanup. That record isn't unbroken, though. In a 2021 Houzz review, a customer describes a brownstone repointing job gone badly wrong — and when they asked to have the mistakes fixed, the response was that the reviewer's contact didn't actually own the company and should take it up with his wife instead. It's a specific, credible complaint about both workmanship and how a problem was handled, and worth asking about directly. On licensing: BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor license (#176274) as active as of July 2026, though filed under the name 'Cobblestone Management Group Inc' rather than Cobblestone Group Inc. — same address, phone and owner (Brian O'Connell), so likely a related entity rather than a mismatch, but worth confirming which entity signs the contract. For a homeowner planning a significant historic-home renovation or addition in Boston, Cobblestone's larger projects have a strong track record — just ask pointed questions about the 2021 complaint and get current licensing in writing before signing.

Had this company do a repointing of our brownstone. It was beyond terrible. When I asked him to fix it mistakes. He said oh I actually don’t own the company my wife does and she’s an attorney deal with her.
Used Cobblestone for a kitchen remodel and was very happy with the results. The backsplash was a real wow factor when people entered the house.
Perfection 👍
Cobblestone Group did an incredible job renovating my somewhat dated bathroom. As is often the case with older buildings, issues were encountered when demolition began. Cobblestone not only navigated these issues smoothly but provided an incredible end result. You can rest assured that Cobblestone works with the A Team of professionals to get the job done. The end result of my bathroom renovation makes me happy I decided to use Cobblestone. Should I decide to renovate again in the future, I would not hesitate to call this great team.
After living in the house on Rockwood Street since its construction in 1952, my mother-in-law reluctantly moved out and agreed to sell. In preparation for the sale, we hired Cobblestone to completely renovate and upgrade the property. Most of the original bathrooms and the kitchen were still there and very little work, except for basic maintenance, had been done on the house. Brian and his team worked for more than a year on a total renovation project that increased in scope as new issues were discovered with the basic structure of the house. They cut a new driveway and completely re-landscaped the front gardens and backyard. New sewage, gas, and water lines were laid. They added a third story to the house that included two beautiful bedrooms and another full bath. The master bedroom was expanded to construct a new modern bathroom. The kitchen was renovated to the latest standards with modern appliances. They built a new deck on the back of the house. All windows were replaced and the front entrance was completely redesigned. The basement, which had been used as a small apartment, was gutted and remodeled into a family room and storage space. Brian's guys installed gas heat and central AC. An amazing project! And yet at the end of it all the house still retained its original shape and appearance. (See pictures on their site.) The house went on the market last year and was immediately snapped up by a new family with small children. My mother-in-law died recently happy in the knowledge that her beloved house would be home again to children. We cannot recommend Cobblestone more highly. A professional and talented team of builders and artisans led by an experienced and honest contractor.
